Mesh Upload - Rigging

Quick Tour

The rigging tab was introduced in Firestorm 6.4 extending the features previously found on the Options tab to improve control and pre-upload analysis for rigged mesh assets. By default, the viewer will automatically detect weights in a mesh model and enable them, this saves the user from having to visit the rigging tab when they are confident of their upload (see below for more details). The viewer will not automatically enable joint overrides though so extra care needs to be taken when these are used, to avoid a wasted upload.

For the most part, this tab is informational and allows inspection of the asset pre-import.

Include Skin Weight

Tells the viewer to upload the rigging weight data. By default, this is now automatically enabled in an attempt to reduce the number of bad uploads where weights are forgotten. This can however, cause a delay to the initial display of the model and some users may wish to disable this feature. A debug variable has been provided for this purpose and setting FSMeshUploadAutoEnableWeights=FALSE via the debug menu will turn this off. (This option will be made available on a new tab in the next release to remove the need to use debug settings)

Include Joint Positions and Lock Scale

These two options are only available if the weights are enabled.

Joint positions should be included if the base rig (skeleton) used in the model needed to have any bones moved. The “joints” list shows the bones that have overrides in bold, those that do not without bold, when a “bold” bone is highlighted, the list of meshes that are weighted to the moved bone are displayed in the “Position overrides” scroll list.

Lock scale if joint position defined allows the creator to fix the position of an item disabling it from the effects of shape sliders.

Z-offset

Z-Offset can be used to adjust the offset of the model relative to the ground, this can be used to counteract the need to alter hover height in-world.

Note: The preview options and the upload options are capable of being set independently, this will be cleaned up in a future release. Be careful to ensure that the upload options that you expect are specified and do not just rely on the preview.
