Bakes On Mesh or BOM

If you are a new avatar, in Second Life, you do NOT have to know anything about BOM (Bakes On Mesh), but so many people love it, let's find out why. :)

Bakes On Mesh, or BOM, is an optional avatar customization, where you can apply any system skins and other layers to your avatar.

In the Following example, I'll be using BOM for my Maitreya body, but with a head from Lelutka.

1. First, Find a skin you like, Glam Affair is usually a good place to start looking because their skins work with Maitreya skin colors.

2. Open the Skin Folder, right click and “add” (not wear) the following: Brow shape, Blush and Skin color you like.

3. Next, click on your Lelutka folder and open it.

You will right click and “add” (not wear) the following: *Alpha Mask (For this example choose - BOM Head, APPLIER Body/Eyes), Eyes, Head, Hud, Shape and Teeth.

Congratulations! You have done it for your head, so now, let's fix your body skin to match the head skin.

To Apply a BOM Skin

(Don't get frightened if you look like a puzzle at the start, or your body disappears, it's normal.)
You are wearing the Alpha on your head from Lelutka, so we need to match the Maitreya body skin to the head.
1. Detach the alpha from your Maitreya or other style body. (This will make your body disappear.
2. Next, open your BODY hud, in this example it is the Maitreya Hud. Find the tab “Skin and Base”. The “Bakes On Mesh” button will be dark, located after all the skin preset colors, click it to make the words white. You have activated the BOM on your body, and your skin will show. (See the following pictures.)

See the hand on the grayed button Bakes On Mesh

Once you click it, it will be Activated, the words “Bakes On Mesh” will be White:

3. Go back to your Maitreya hud and find the perfect fit of color for your body from the preset colors, one that matches the head. And there you have it.

Remember to play around and have fun experimenting. Most people tweak their bodies and try different looks, it's ok. If you mess up, go back to the beginning and start again.

Tip: You can always save an outfit, and revert back to that body.
