Firestorm Classes

These classes are based on our official Firestorm release and are conducted in text except when otherwise noted. There's no need to talk, but you may want to be able to hear. We also usually have help available to answer questions in text. This schedule is subject to change.

Note that it is best if you are on Firestorm for the classes.

Locations are indicated in the far right column as follows:

Class times and days change regularly. Classes may be held any day of the week, with start times from 8am to 7pm SLT. Nonetheless, if the class times are still inconvenient you may prefer to watch recorded versions of some of these classes on YouTube.

Unscheduled classes may also be held on an impromptu basis. If this happens, a notice will be sent in Firestorm Support English. secondlife:///app/group/3a1be8d4-01f3-bc1a-2703-442f0cc8f2dd/about

Top Objects Window

This window opens when you select Get Top Colliders or Get Top Scripts from the Region DetailsDebug Tab. It will show either objects experiencing collisions or information for scripted objects on the region. This can help potentially problematic physical or scripted objects, which might be generating high region/server lag.

Top Objects Window

NOTES:

  • Top Colliders: Since readings shown are for a brief instant in time, repeatedly click the refresh button to observe if activity is sustaining or spurious. Something that's rapidly colliding at one moment may settle to rest the next.
Note that any prims acting as floors will show collisions if an avatar is walking on them; this is normal and expected (were there no collisions, the avatar would fall through the prim).
  • Top Scripts: Times reported are the average script time per frame for the last 30 minutes for all scripts on the object. If the object has been in the region for less than 30 minutes the number reported will be the average time per frame since the object entered the region.
  • Normally, you don't have to worry about removing anything if performance feels fine and looks OK in the Statistics window.
  • Only use this tool with great care after you've learned the technical aspects involved: while you can remove troublesome objects, you can also inadvertently destroy content.

Click on column titles to sort them in ascending or descending order. The columns are:

  • Score: The higher, the worse, but consider it relative to the total shown in Statistics. (Only shown in Top Colliders.)
  • Time: The total average script time per frame over the last 30 minutes for all scripts in the object. (Only shown in Top Scripts.)
  • Name: The object's name.
  • Owner: The Resident who owns the object; if the owner is unfamiliar and the region just started behaving slowly, it may be worth checking out.
  • Location: Coordinates of where the object is located in the region.
  • Time: When the object was rezzed inworld. Older objects are more likely to be intended to stay.
  • Mono Time: The amount of time spent specifically running scripts compiled to Mono. (Only shown in Top Scripts.)
  • URLs: Which URLs are being used per the LSL HTTP server. Only shown in Top Scripts.

Other fields and buttons on this window are:

  • Object ID: The object's UUID.
  • Show Beacon: Select an object in the list, then click Show Beacon to visually pinpoint the object's Location.
  • Object Name & Owner: For each of these, type in a specific name, then click Filter to only show matching results. Partial searches work: “car” shows objects named “red car”.
  • Refresh Button: Refreshes the list.
  • Return Selected: Returns the selected object in the list to its owner. Be careful, there's no confirmation!
  • Return All: Returns all objects in the list to their owners. Asks for your confirmation; there's no undo!
  • Disable Selected: Disables physics (for colliders) or scripts (for scripted objects) for the selected object in the list.
  • Disable All: Turns off all physics or scripts in objects in the list. Asks for your confirmation; there's no undo!\
  • Teleport to: TPs you to the object selected in the list.
  • Script Info: Shows detailed script information for the selected object. This requires that the Firestorm bridge be enabled and worn.
  • Profile: If an avatar is selected in the lsti (as opposed to an object), this button will display the person's profile.
  • Estate Kick: Ejects the selected avatar from the region.

Voice Issues

Please note: Viewers play a minor part in voice functionality. The bulk of voice support is given by the external application called SLVoice, which is made by the SL voice provider, Vivox. Voice failures are almost always due to one of the following reasons:

  • Your ISP is throttling or blocking the voice service;
  • failure of the Vivox service;
  • voice issues on the region you are on;
  • voice being throttled by bandwidth set incorrectly - please check it by following the instructions here;
  • voice hardware (mic, headset) not configured correctly in your operating system settings;
  • voice hardware not configured correctly in the viewer;
  • another application has your voice hardware in use (example, Skype);
  • your anti virus software has “mangled” the voice application; see steps on this page: here.

  • your firewall is blocking slvoice. Add slvoice to your firewall's exclusion/allow list.
Please go to Voice Echo Canyon when trying to get voice to work. If voice is working correctly for you, anything you say there will be echoed back to you. Once there, relog to last location.

Unable to connect to voice server 'www.bhr.vivox.com'

The IP address of the server 'www.bhr.vivox.com' recently changed to 74.201.103.238 so anyone having a problem can check to see what address their system sees for that name - if it's not that address, it's probably wrong. A simple reboot may resolve this issue. If not, see DNS Fail - General steps for help fixing this.

nslookup command how-to: WindowsMacLinux

Since 4.7.9, voice has not always connected to the voice servers. This is due to some coding issues that we inherited from the official SL viewer and that code's interaction with the latest voice files. The issue is documented on LL's Jira. A workaround is to disable and then re-enable voice. But if you're presented with the voice connection failure message that tells you “Voice communications will not be available”, you may need to disable voice and then relog before voice will try to reconnect.

Steps:

  • Go to Preferences → Sound & Media → Voice, and untick “Enable Voice.”
  • Relog.
  • Wait 10-20 seconds, or until the viewer has finished rezzing the scene.
  • Re-enable voice.

Version 5.1.7., voice crashes when turning on microphone. See BUG-225293 and FIRE-22940
Fixed Firestorm-Beta 6.0.1.
Note that the SLVoice executable in this viewer is not compatible with most older viewers; do not copy it into other viewers.http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/5.1.8.518593

Disable When Not in Use

Most voice connection issues happen when the viewer tries to connect to voice during the login process. The workaround is to disable voice before you log out, and then only enable it after logging in when you need it. You can toggle Voice from the Media Controls at the top of the viewer (not enabled by default for Vintage or Latency skins) by hovering over the speaker icon and then checking or unchecking the last checkbox, or by going to Preferences ⇒ Sound & Media ⇒ Voice and checking or unchecking the top option.

Ensure Headset Properly Connected

If you have issues hearing but not being heard, or vice versa, then make sure that your headset is properly connected to your computer. Unplug it, then plug it back in, making sure it is fully inserted.

And on a related note, if you plug your headset in while logged into SL, you will very likely have to relog to get it to be recognised.

Check Voice Settings in your Operating System

Due to the many different versions of each operating system (Windows, linux distros, Mac OSx's), it is very difficult to give specifics for each one. Nonetheless, make sure that your operating system is correctly configured for voice: that voice is going to your headset (or speakers, as you prefer), and that your mic is enabled and configured.

If you can hear people but cannot be heard, or vice versa, it is most likely a problem in this area.

A bit more specifically, for Windows and linux, check in Mixer that SLvoice is listed, and not muted. Check that input and output devices are correct. For Mac, look in the Sound Preference pane.

Voice doesn't work when Skype is on, or sounds don't work while using voice:

  1. In Windows Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Manage Audio Devices
  2. Select the Recording tab, select the microphone, select Properties
  3. Select the Advanced tab - untick 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' - click OK
  4. Select the Communications tab
  5. Select 'Do Nothing' - click OK

Some details provided below.

Check Voice Settings in the Viewer

  • Go to PreferencesSound & Media -> Sounds. Find the Voice Chat slider and make sure it is not all to the left. Try increasing the volume.
  • Make sure that Voice chat is enabled on that preferences tab.
  • go to PreferencesSound & Media -> Voice. Click on Audio Device Settings. For Input and Output, use the dropdowns to select your voice devices (headset, microphone, whatever you use). It is best not to leave these at Default.
  • Close Preferences and locate the Mic button on the button bar. Click the Lock checkbox then the actual button, and try speaking (hopefully, you went to Voice Echo Canyon so you can test).

Try Reinstalling Drivers

Try reinstalling the drivers for your sound card, if you have one. Sometimes, these drivers conflict with the sound component of graphics card drivers. Similarly, you may have success by reinstalling your graphics card driver.

If voice still does not work, then continue working through this page.

Voice Is Intermittent

If you find that voice cuts in and out, particularly right after a TP, and at the same time, you notice that things are not rezzing in for you very well (avatars, objects, etc), then the likely cause is that your router is being “overwhelmed” with texture transfers. So reboot your router/modem, and then your computer, and see if the problem is solved.

You can also try adjusting your bandwidth as explained here.

If that does not help, then proceed with the section below.

Voice Worked Fine but Suddenly Doesn't Work

Chances are good that the problem lies with the SL servers or the voice provider, Vivox. Still, there are things you can try:

  • Open Preferences, and go to Sound & Media → Voice, and click Reset (circular arrow).
  • Shut down all applications that use, or can use, voice - like Skype, etc. Then relog.
  • What sometimes helps to get voice working is disabling voice in PreferencesSound & Media -> Voice, hitting Ok, waiting a minute and then enabling voice and click Ok. When these methods fail (assuming voice usually works for you) it is usually the Vivox voice servers that are the problem.
  • If this does not work at your current location, go to a region where other people are able to use voice at this time. One possibility is Firestorm Social, but any region where voice is known to be functioning is fine. Disable voice in PreferencesSound & Media -> Voice. Relog, using the last location selection on your login screen. Wait a couple of minutes. Reenable voice. Wait another couple of minutes (in other words, give the connection time to be established). If voice comes on, then the problem may have been the region you were in before. Was voice disabled there? If not, a region restart might solve the problem.
  • Go to Preferences → Network & Files -> Connection and reduce your bandwidth setting to 500 (if it is not already set there). Repeat the above step to toggle voice off and back on. See here for more information on setting your bandwidth properly, but bear in mind that lower levels than those calculated there may be necessary for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Log out of the viewer, then check Task Manager (or equivalent) and see if SLVoice is still running. If so, kill the process, restart the viewer and see if voice connects.
  • Try a relog, or even reboot your router/modem, and then your computer. 1)
  • Sometimes device settings can reset, so check in PreferencesSound & Media -> Voice→ Audio Device Settings, to be sure that the input and output are set correctly.
  • HTTP fetching may be overloading your router; please try the suggestions given here; if they do not help, revert the changes made then return to this page and continue.

Never Been Able to Get Voice to Work

  • Does your headset/microphone work outside of SL? ie when using Skype, Yahoo or MSN
  • Is your voice chat volume turned up and not muted?
  • Is the SLVoice.exe (simply SLVoice on Mac) that is in the Firestorm folder in the exceptions/allowed list for your firewall? If your firewall is turned off, turn it on and add the SLVoice.exe (or SLVoice) anyway.
If your Firewall has SLVoice listed twice, then remove both instances, and allow it again. For Win10, make sure that SLVoice has Private unchecked, and Public checked. If you had these set differently, change them, then close the window, log out of SL, reboot.
  • Check the bandwidth you are actually getting and what you have set in Preferences → Network & Files → Connection. Please refer to this page for specifics.
  • Go to top menu, Advanced → Debug Settings, and in the window that opens, type: Cmdlinedisablevoice - then ensure this is set to FALSE. (Use Crtl-Alt-D to enable the Advanced menu, if it isn't.)

By Operating System

Windows Vista and Windows 7

Try disabling compatibility mode, if enabled:

  • Locate your desktop shortcut for Firestorm (if you use the pinned application on the task bar, make sure you pin the Firestorm shortcut, not the running viewer)
  • Right click on the icon and select Properties
  • Select the Compatibility tab
  • Find “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” if it is set then disable this
  • Make sure “Run as Administrator” is enabled (if this is greyed out, then you're probably already running as administrator, so you can ignore this step).
  • Click Apply.
  • Now log back into the viewer, and see if voice works (do you have the white dot over your head?). If not, go to PreferencesSound & Media -> Voice and disable voice; wait a few moments, then re-enable. 2)

On Windows 7, if you find yourself being able to talk but not hear what others say, then a possible solution is to use the sound drivers from Vista. (This needs further confirmation.)

Windows 10

1) Make sure to check all voice-related settings in Windows carefully.

  • If you don't know how, Google how to operate the voice settings in your version of Windows.
  • One tip: Check which application has control of your mic by hovering over the mic in your Task Bar:
It should show SLVoice. Click it to find out what apps are allowed to use the mic:

2) Refer to the "Audio Issues" section of the Win 10 issues page for a possible problem/solution.

3) If voice works but sounds very distorted, see the "Voice Is Distorted" section of the Win 10 issues page.

4) If voice doesn't work when Skype is on, or sounds don't work while using voice:

Mac

All Mac Operating Systems

Basic test for Mac connection to the voice process

  • On your Mac, open your Activity Monitor
  • In Activity Monitor, enter “slvoice” in the search window so that you see only SLVoice in the list
  • While watching it, reset voice in the viewer. If it doesn't vanish for several seconds, then reappear, then the SLVoice process is no longer connected to the viewer.
  • To fix this, log off Firestorm, force quit SLVoice if it doesn't quit itself, then log in again.

Voice issues plus other connection problems
If you are unable to connect to voice and you are also having problems with teleporting and/or loading your friends list, perhaps along with other things, then see the “Mac-specific” section of this page for instructions and more explanation.

Mojave (10.14.x) (but possibly could happen on others)

1) Check Mac System Prefs → Security & Privacy → Privacy → Microphone.

  • Your current Firestorm version should be listed there. If it isn't, try relogging. If that doesn't help, try deleting just the Firestorm application from your Applications folder, then reinstalling it (there is no need to do anything with cache or settings folders).
  • If there are multiple versions of Firestorm in System Prefs → Security & Privacy → Privacy → Microphone, find those versions on your computer and delete them. They should disappear from the list. Then relaunch your current Firestorm, and if that doesn't work, reinstall it.

2) If you seem to have voice working (voice dots and green speech indicators show) but can't speak/hear, and your device doesn't show in PreferencesSound & Media -> Voice→ Audio Device Settings, you may be able to use your Mac Audio MIDI Setup to fix this.

  1. Go to your Mac Utilities folder and open Audio MIDI Setup.
  2. Look for your headset/mic in the list.
  3. If your device shows there, proceed:
  4. Click the + sign and choose “Create Multi-Output Device.”
  5. In the new Multi-Output Device that appears, select your headset/mic.
  6. If you have Firestorm open, relog so it can find the new Device.
  7. Go to PreferencesSound & Media -> Voice→ Audio Device Settings, and select your new “Multi-Output Device.”
  • This fix has not been extensively tested. Feedback and suggestions are welcome.
  • Thanks to user Zuzu Zong for the suggestion.

See also this JIRA issue for other possible suggestions.

linux

Every linux distro is different; and each distro may have more than one window manager to further complicate things. So tips can't be “absolute”; you will need to experiment and see what works for you. The following have been suggested by some as effective. But first….

In the Firestorm install directory, there's a text file (originally from LL) with tips on getting voice to work in linux. If you haven't read that, then you can try to see if it helps.

  • Make sure you have ALSA and/or FMODEX available. FMODEX is supplied with Firestorm, normally. If you look at Help → About Firestorm, you should see a line that resembles this:
Audio Driver Version: OpenAL, version 1.1 ALSOFT 1.11.753 / OpenAL Community / OpenAL Soft: PulseAudio Software
If that says “none” then you have no audio driver available to Firestorm and need to install one.
  • Edit the firestorm shell script and remove the #. That will force LL to use FMOD rather than ALSA. Some say this is how to get voice working.
#export LL_BAD_OPENAL_DRIVER=x
  • Some swear that the problem is PulseAudio, so you can try to remove that from your system. Be warned, however, that this could cause more problems than it solves. Make sure you remove only Pulse and not half the OS.
  • Be sure to have the correct devices select in Firestorm for voice:
Preferences → Sound & Media → Voice → Audio Device Settings (button)
Input and output may not work if left at default; they may need to go to a specific device like “ALSA Capture on [device name]”.
  • Run ldd across all the vivox libraries and ensure no missing libraries are present (set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to your local firestorm lib dir before running this command so you don't get erroneous results). any missing libs need to have their 32 bit (i386) version installed.

Below are results for selected linux distros, based on input from Phoenix and Firestorm users. This will be updated as more information becomes available.

  • ubuntu 18.04 / linux Mint 19 64-bit + FS64. You may need to install a few extra libs:3)
sudo apt-get install libidn11:i386 libuuid1:i386 libstdc++6:i386

Note: If you experience the issue where voice connects and you are not able to hear audio from people speaking, you might need to install the libasound2-plugins:i386 package (for Debian based systems). The reason for this is that libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so is required on some systems. For non debian systems, install the relevant package that will add the 32 bit version of the library to your system (this might be alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686 on RHEL based systems (CentOS, Fedora))

  • ubuntu 16.04 64 bit + FS64: The following command installs a few 32-bit libs and voice works after. Maybe you need fewer 32-bit libs but that needs further investigation.
Apparently, arch requires these as well - or some of them - though the exact lib name may be different.
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio:i386 libidn11:i386 libuuid1:i386 libstdc++6:i386
  • In the end you should have these libraries installed, in their 32 bit variant. The version numbers here are subject to change in later releases, but it should give you a good starting point on what to look for: ld-2.27.so libc-2.27.so libdl-2.27.so libgcc_s.so.1 libm-2.27.so libpthread-2.27.so libresolv-2.27.so librt-2.27.so libz.so.1.2.11 libXau.so.6.0.0 libasound.so.2.0.0 libcap.so.2.25 libdbus-1.so.3.19.6 libgcrypt.so.20.2.2 libgpg-error.so.0.24.2 libidn.so.12.6.0 liblz4.so.1.8.1 liblzma.so.5.2.3 libpulse.so.0.20.3 libstdc++.so.6.0.25 libsystemd.so.0.21.0 libuuid.so.1.3.0 libxcb.so.1.1.0 libpulsecommon-12.2.so

* A new option is a debug setting, FSLinuxEnableWin32VoiceProxy, which when enabled will cause Firestorm to launch the Windows version of SLVoice.exe via WINE. To use this, you need to ensure that WINE is installed; install WINE with your package manager. An existing WINE profile/prefix is not needed, but will be used if present. Depending on your system, it may take several seconds before voice comes up.

NOTES:
* If you disable voice and then re-enable too quickly, WINE may not successfully restart and voice may fail to re-enable. If you get the warning that there was a problem connecting, you will need to relog before voice will re-enable. Thirty seconds between disable and enable should be enough.
* There is a known related issue here
* To speed up the initial loading of voice, use

wine-preloader $HOME/path/to/firestorm/bin/win32/SLVoice.exe

before launching Firestorm
* One user has suggested that Linux Mint 19.1 has an older version of Wine in its repos. You need to add the Wine stable repo for your version; then it works.

About Land - Options Tab

About Land - Options Tab

This tab controls permissions and restrictions on the parcel for users other than the owner. Generally the parcel owner keeps full abilities on the parcel.

Allow Other Residents To:
  • Edit Terrain: If enabled, this grants the ability to any other resident to edit the terrain in the parcel. Do not grant lightly!
  • Fly: Allow residents on the land to fly, if unchecked residents will notice their “fly” button has been disabled.
  • Create Objects, Object Entry, Run Scripts: These permissions are divided into “All Residents”, and “Group”, which refers to the group set on the General tab. Object Entry refers to objects not attached to an avatar, such as a bullet fired from a gun. Run Scripts refers to all scripts, whether in attached or detached objects.
Land Options:
  • Safe (no damage): If checked, disables combat 1).
  • No Pushing: If checked, then pushes from objects is disabled. Pushing another avatar is often used to annoy them, and most regions have turned on this item to prevent it.
  • Show Place in Search: If checked, the parcel will be listed in the Search window with the name and description from the General tab, and the snapshot below from this tab. A fee of L$30 per week is charged for listing in search, and optionally a category can be chosen from the dropdown menu on this item.
  • Allow Residents on other parcels to - See and chat with residents on this parcel: If enabled, people outside the parcel will be able to see and chat with those inside the parcel; if disabled, anyone in the parcel will be invisible to those outside, no matter how close they may be.
Note: Due to a current SL server bug, you should add at least one person to the parcel ban list; otherwise, you can be seen at heights over 50 meters. Refer to BUG-37601.
  • Moderate Content: This is the parcel rating.
  • Category: Select the category of parcel from the drop-down.
  • Snapshot: This image will be displayed in the “Search” results and landmarks created for the parcel. Clicking the image area will open the “Pick: Texture” floating window so that you can choose the image to display. Alternately, your chosen image can be dragged from your inventory to the image area.
  • Landing Point: Lists the coordinates of the landing point if set, or (none) if not set. The set button will set the landing point to your current avatar position, and the clear button will unset it.
  • Teleport Routing: Determines where teleport landings are allowed for other users. Blocked means that teleports into the parcel are not allowed, and avatars will land outside the parcel; Landing point indicates that teleports are limited to the landing point set above; Anywhere means that teleports may arrive at any location on the parcel.
1)
Second Life has a built-in health system, activated when Safe (no damage) is disabled. Scripted objects can be programmed to inflict damage on participants; when your health drops to 0%, you're teleported home. Unlike other virtual environments, death incurs no permanent penalties aside from a brief inconvenience. Non-consensual combat can be a violation of the Community Standards. Residents have also created their own combat systems when the built-in one was found lacking.

Click on the color boxes to choose custom colors different types of chat text. Most are self-explanatory:

  • My text
  • Others
  • Objects - objects using llSay to chat
  • Friends
  • Linden - LL employees
  • Muted
  • System - Messages from LL
  • Errors
  • Objects IMs - objects using llInstantMessage to chat (the chat shows in local chat, not an IM window)
  • Owner - objects using llOwnerSay to chat
  • URLs - Color used for the domain part of a URL
  • URL Query part: Color used for the path/query component of a URL.
  • Direct - objects using llRegionSayTo to chat
  • Chat Headers Colors to use if chat headers are enabled - or rather, when V1-style headers are disabled in PreferencesChat -> Chat Windows:
    • Avatars
    • Objects
  • Beyond chat range diminish factor: The factor used to fade the chat if they communicate from beyond chat range (ie, shout).
  • Color IM/Group chat distinctly in console: Enable this if you want to set a different color for IM and group chat displayed in chat console (console is the lower left area of the screen, where local chat is shown).

Name Tags

You can color name tags separately, as follows:

  • My tag
  • Friends
  • Muted
  • Linden Lab
  • Match - if someone's display name matches their user name, this color will be used.
  • Mismatch - if a person's display name is different from the user name, use this color.
  • Color user names distinctly: If you enable this, you get another color box, which allows you to select a color for user names; display names will then use one of the colors above.
  • Color friend name tags distinctly: Apply the color setting above to friends.
  • Color (box): Here you can select the background color to be used for name tags.
    • Name Tag/Bubble Chat/Console Opacity: The farther left the slider, the more transparent the floater will be.
    • Name tag Z-Offset: Allows you to adjust the height of your name tag above your avatar. Handy for non human avatars, from tinies to large dragons, so the name isn't embedded in the avatar, or floating way above.
  • Show distance in name tag: If enabled, avatar distance from you is shown in the name tag.
  • Color name tags based on distance: If enabled, several mode color boxes are revealed, allowing you to select colors to be used to indicate how far people are from you (see this LL wiki page):
    • Chat range - 20m
    • Whisper range - 10m
    • Shout - 100m
    • Beyond shout range

Minimap

  • Background Opacity: Allows you to change the minimap background opacity.

    • Me
    • Others
    • Friends
    • Linden Lab
    • Muted
  • Display rings on the mini map indicating the whisper, say and shout chat ranges: Adds a ring on the minimap that shows local chat range. This reveals three color selectors, to set colors for:
    • Whisper range
    • Chat range
    • Shout range

Note: Other options concerning minimap are found under PreferencesMove & View -> Map & Minimap.

Miscellaneous

Various other color options, as follows:

  • Selection effects (particle beam)
  • Script Dialog F/B: Foreground and background colors for script dialog windows.

Movement Issues

Avatar Can't Move

If you can turn in circles but not move forward/backwards, you probably have Movelock enabled.

  • Go to the Avatar menu→ Movement submenu and make sure Movelock is not ticked.
  • See Movelock info for more information or if you are unable to change the Movelock setting.

However, there are a few other things to try:

  • Go to a different region and see if you are able to move there. If so, something at your original location is causing the problem.
  • If you are using a LAQ mesh head, make sure you don't have the Pose feature turned on.
  • Make sure you don't have some other HUD with a pose feature.
  • If you can't find what attachment is causing the problem, try going to Advanced menu (Ctrl-Alt-D ) → Release Keys.
    • Note: Release Keys will be greyed out if RLV has locked any of your attachments. To disable RLV, go to Prefs → Firestorm → Extras, untick the top item, and then relog.
  • Make sure you don't have the Firestorm pose stand active.
    • If you have the Pose Stand button on your toolbar, make sure it's not “on.”
    • If you don't have the button, go to Avatar menu → Toolbar Buttons, drag the Pose Stand button out to your toolbar, and make sure it's not “on.”

Avatar Is Stuck in an Animation

  • Try Avatar menu → Avatar Health → Stop Animations & Revoke Permissions.
  • Try right clicking your avatar → Reset Skeleton & Animations.
  • If the above two items did not work, go to a different region and try them again.
  • If you have the animation in your inventory, play it from inventory, then click Stop.
  • Remove attachments one by one until the animation stops. (This will eliminate worn items as a cause.)
    • Note: Animations can be in ANY attachment.
    • Note: Attachments are anything with a box icon. Look in Inventory → Current Outfit folder to see all your attachments.
  • Make sure the Firestorm AO is off:
    • On the AO button on your toolbar, untick the checkbox.
    • Note: The Firestorm AO can be active even if the button is not on your toolbar. If it is not on your toolbar, go to Avatar menu → Toolbar Buttons, drag the AO button out onto your toolbar, and make sure it is not ticked.
  • If you know that a “sittable” item gave you the animation:
    1. Go to Preferences → Firestorm → Protection → Revoke Permissions.
    2. Temporarily set this to “Revoke on Sit and Stand.”
    3. Sit on the item, then stand. This should stop the animation.
    4. Change Preferences → Firestorm → Protection → Revoke Permissions back to either “Never” or “Revoke on Stand.”
  • Try Advanced menu → Release keys. (After doing this, you will need to recreate the FS bridge: Avatar → Avatar health → Recreate LSL Bridge.)

Furniture or Pose Ball Does Not Animate Me

  • You may simply be experiencing lag: See Troubleshooting Lag for tips to reduce this.
  • Many pose balls will request permission to animate you. If you did not see the animation request, look in your Notifications window for the message. Click “Accept.”
  • Make sure you have not blocked the item or its owner: Look in Comm menu → Block List, see if the item or the item's owner is there, and remove the item/person from the block list.
  • Go to Preferences → Firestorm → Protection → Revoke Permissions. For normal use, this should be set to either “Normal” (no protection) or “Revoke on Stand.” It should normally NOT be set to “Revoke on Sit” or “Revoke on Sit and Stand,” as both of these will prevent items from animating you when you are sitting.

Avatar Rubber-Banding

“Rubber-banding” is when you try to walk forward and then suddenly snap back to a previous position. Sometimes you will seem unable to stop walking. This is caused by region lag, when the server can't keep up with processing avatar movement (collisions).

  • For info about region lag see here: Region Lag
  • For some things that region or parcel owners can do to reduce region lag see here: Reducing Server Lag.

Avatar Slides When Trying to Walk, but No Animation Is Playing

This typically happens when you have two or more conflicting AOs (animation overriders) on.

  • Start by removing known AOs until you are wearing only one known AO.
  • If that doesn't help, start by removing other HUDs, then all other attachments, one by one, until it stops. Any worn item can contain an animation, so don't assume that some items are “ok.”
  • Note: Attachments are anything with a box icon. Look in Inventory → Current Outfit folder to see all your attachments.

Avatar Spinning

  • Try turning the opposite direction to the spin.
  • Try pressing BOTH right and left arrow keys at the same time, repeatedly.
  • Relog.

User Floating a Few Meters Above the Ground

This is a possible bridge problem: recreate bridge by going to Avatar menu → Avatar Health → Recreate LSL Bridge.

Avatar Goes Forever Upward

This is a possible bridge problem: recreate bridge by going to Avatar menu → Avatar Health → Recreate LSL Bridge.

Head Keeps Moving Even When "Head Follows Mouse" Sliders Are Set to Zero

For unknown reasons, some users need to change an additional setting:

Go to Preferences → Privacy → Lookat, and tick “Don't Send My Selection Target Hints.”

I Am Stuck Running

  • In most cases, pressing Ctrl-R to toggle run mode will get you back into walk (though it may in some cases be necessary to hit Ctrl-R more than once).
  • If you are wearing a scripted AO (animation overrider), turn off any “running” features it has.
  • If you are using the Firestorm built-in AO (animation overrider), make sure there are no running animations in the “Walking” or “Standing” categories.

After Strafe

Ref. BUG-6825

In one specific case, the above will not work. Specifically:

  • You have Preferences → Move & View → Movement → Tap-tap-hold to run enabled.
  • Press shift, then tap-tap-hold the left or right arrow key

That gets you running sideways. If you release shift before the arrow key, you will be stuck running.

To stop running, you have to repeat the sequence: press shift, then tap-tap-hold left or right arrow.

When Standing Up from a Groundsit, I Start Running

This is a known SL bug also affecting the SL viewer. Refer to this SL bug report for more information.

cannot_sit

I Can't Sit on Things

If you find yourself unable to sit on a prim, it may be for one of the following reasons:

Bounding Box Interfering

  • If the item you are trying to sit on is unscripted (or does not have a sit target defined) and you have placed it within the bounding box of another prim, such as a big piece of landscaping, then you will not be able to sit on it. You will need to either move the item out of the area of the prim, move the prim itself, or ask the creator to implement the sit target scripting correctly.

You can verify by taking the item up to a height where there are no other prims at all, and sitting on it.

Left-Click Sitting Is Blocked

  • Go to Preferences → Firestorm → Protection and ensure that “Block sitting on objects via left-click” is not checked.

Something Has a Script Error

  • If you find you cannot sit on anything (or being forced to stand up immediately), scripted or unscripted (or even groundsit), on one sim only, but other avies can, the chances are one item has a broken script and is using the “llUnSit” script command repeatedly in error.

To find out which item is preventing you from sitting:

Starting with the last thing you sat on in the affected sim, take the item to inventory. Once taken, try to sit on something else. If you can sit, the item taken has the broken script. You have the choice of either re-rezzing that item and resetting the scripts (if it is mod) or just not rezzing it again.

If you cannot remember which was the last item you sat on, take each item one at a time and try sitting until you have found the broken item.

If the item belongs to someone else, that person will need to reset the scripts or unrez it.

Preferences - Sound & Media

Sounds Tab

There are several volume sliders available here so you can customize the levels for each. Note that the master volume slider affects ALL volume.

Your personal maturity rating determines whether or not you are able to hear sounds originating from a Moderate or Adult region. Your personal maturity rating must meet or exceed the maturity rating on the region you wish to hear sounds from.
For more information, please refer to this page.
  • Mute when minimized: Checking this will mute all sounds when you minimize the viewer.

You can enable/disable Streaming music, Media (video) and Voice Chat from the the check boxes to the right of their respective volume sliders. For issues getting audio or media working, refer to this page.

  • Play sounds from collisions:

(to the right of the Ambient slider) Enable this to hear when collisions occur.

  • L$ change theshold: This sets the value above which you will get an audible alert when you receive or spend L$. Amounts below this will not trigger a sound.
  • Output Device: This drop down allows you to change the output device for viewer sounds
    • Selecting “Default” will always select the first output device; if the available devices change and the previous default device isn't available anymore, the viewer automatically switches to the new default device (depends on the OS which gets the new default one!). Selecting a particular device will NOT automatically switch to another device if it isn't available anymore (preferences will show “Unavailable device”), but will switch back to this device once it becomes available again. ==== Media Tab ==== * Allow Media to Auto-Play: With this enabled, video will play automatically (not recommended). * Allow inworld scripts to play media: Will allows scripts to automatically start media (not recommended). * Play media attached to other avatars: Enables media attached to other avatars (media on a prim). * Enable media filter (increased security): This will let you control what media stream you connect to, allowing you to whitelist or blacklist any media stream. See this page for more information. * Manage Media Sites (button): Allows you to edit your whitelist Domains and blacklist Domains by Adding and Removing from either category. More information is here. * Media source volume rolloff distance: * Starts getting quieter at: This controls when a sound source will start to fade out. * Completely disappears at: This controls when a sound source will be no longer audible. ==== Music Tab ==== * Allow audio streams to auto-play: With this enabled, streaming music will play automatically (not recommended). * Enable Parcel Audio Fading: Check this if fading should be used when the parcel audio stream changes. * Fade in: duration of the fade in seconds. * Fade out: duration of the fade effect in seconds. * Show stream title notifications: For audio streams that supply this information, the song title will be shown. Can be set to: * Off * Toasts * Nearby Chat * Send stream title to chat channel: Lets you choose what channel the viewer uses for the above option. ==== Voice Tab ==== * Enable Voice: Check here to enable voice. * Reset Voice (Circular arrow): If you have problems getting voice to work, try clicking this to reset the vocie software. Should that not help, refer to this page. * Allow Voice in multiple viewer instances simultaneously: Enable this if you want voice capability in multiple instances of Firestorm. * Hear Voice from Camera Position: Voices closer to your camera position appear louder. * Hear Voice from Avatar Position: Voices closer to your avatar position appear louder. * Move avatar lips when speaking: (aka “lip sync”) Will cause you to see avatars' lips moving when they speak in voice. * Show voice visualizers over avatars: Enable this to display a white dot over avatars who have voice enabled. * Show voice visualizers in calls: Show voice indicator and move avatar lips while in a private call. * Show voice channel state in conversation tabs: Indicate, in conversation tabs, when people have voice enabled. * Automatically reject all incoming group voice calls: Enable this to automatically decline group voice chat. * Automatically reject all incoming AdHoc (conference) voice calls: Enable to automatically decline voice conference calls. * Automatically reject all incoming P2P (avatar with avatar) voice calls: Enable to automatically decline person to person voice calls. * Toggle speak on/off when I press: Clicking the Set Key button allows you to assign a button on your keyboard to toggle voice. * Audio Device Settings (button): Opens a section where you can choose your input and output as well as adjust the mic volume. You will be disconnected from in-world voice while this is open. To close simply click the button again. ==== UI Sounds 1 ==== Here, you can change sounds played when specific “events” happen (for example, the sound played when you get a new IM). You can also chose to disable (or re-enable) sounds on a case by case basis. To change a sound, locate the “event” you are interested in (example: Taking Snapshot), then paste in the UUID of the sound you wish to use. To obtain the UUID of a sound in your inventory, right click on it and select Copy UUID.
Note that the sound clip needs to be full permissions in order for you to be able to obtain the UUID.) If you wish to restore the default value, click the
D** button to the right of the UUID.

The drop down to the far right of each line allows you to enable or disable each sound.

See here for a video describing this.

Failed to Find Item in the Database

Symptom: You receive a message that the system has “Failed to find [name of any item] in the database” every time you try to wear or remove something.

Please note: This is not a viewer issue, but we have written this page to help users with a common problem.

We have identified three causes of this. Please work through each one until the problem is solved.

  • Open your Inventory and look in your Current Outfit folder (must be the “Current Outfit” folder and not the “Worn” tab; this is important).
  • Look for any broken links in the folder, particularly for the item with the name in the “Failed” warning you're receiving.
  • Delete any and all broken links in the folder.

Explanation: This error happens when the broken link gets “stuck” in the folder for some reason. When the viewer tries to update the Current Outfit folder – which happens whenever you wear or remove a body part or clothing item – it detects the link in there and thinks you want to be wearing that item. So it tries to put it on you, but it can't because the link is broken, and the “Failed” message pops up.

Replace the outfit

If deleting broken links doesn't help, or if there were none, then make a temporary folder in your inventory. In it, put a copy of a system skin, system shape, system hair base, and system eyes - nothing else - and not the ones you are already wearing. Then right-click the folder name, replace outfit (not add or wear). Then check Current Outfit folder (not Worn tab) and delete any links showing as not worn. Then relog. (Please follow these steps exactly as given - it matters.)

  • If the error message has gone away, you can try putting on your usual body parts and clothing.
  • If the error message has NOT gone away, proceed to the next section.

Incorrect system layers in Lost & Found folder

  • Check in Lost & Found folder and delete any system layers named “new”–“New skin,” “New eyes,” “New pants,” or similar.
  • If you are wearing the item, remove it (if a clothing layer) or change to a different body part, whichever applies, and try deleting the item again.

Explanation: If a worn system clothing layer or system body part is not found at login, that layer/body part will be replaced with a default asset that is created and placed in Lost & Found. You will continue to get the error message until the “new” item is deleted from Lost & Found.

  • If the error message has gone away, you can try putting on your usual body parts and clothing.
  • If the error message has NOT gone away, proceed to the next section.

System Mechanic Pro's NetBooster Internet Optimization

(Windows only)

This feature has been known to cause problems.

The NetBooster tool is a feature in System Mechanic Pro. This NetBooster feature does not always execute, so there is an element of randomness to reproducing these SL connectivity problems when System Mechanic Pro is installed on the system.

  • Uninstalling System Mechanic Pro does not appear to revert the changes made by the NetBooster feature.
  • The solution is to go into the NetBooster tool and selected “Restore original settings”.
  • This restores Windows default settings and everything in SL works again.

For more information and additional symptoms, see this SL bug report.

Otherwise

If none of these steps help, then please test using the official LL viewer, which can be downloaded here. If you have the same problem there, file a support ticket with LL.

Texture Discarded Due to Insufficient Memory

This error is followed by a number, which indicates how many textures have been discarded. Once it appears, you'll find that other textures will fail to rez in, and in many cases, shortly after the error message appears, you will crash out.

What Does It Mean?

This error tends to happen much more on the 32-bit versions of Firestorm, but is not totally unknown on 64-bit versions.

The message is fairly self explanatory; it means you have run out of available memory. Now some say, “But I have 16GB of RAM, isn't that enough?” Well, especially with 32 bit viewers, you won't be able to use all of that memory. Depending on your operating system, only 2 GB or 3 GB are available to the viewer.

Some also note that older versions of Firestorm never had this problem, that they never saw this message so it must be a new bug. It is correct that older versions didn't show this, but that doesn't mean that the problem didn't exist. Rather, no message was shown and you would simply crash. The addition of the message at least indicates what the problem is, and thus makes troubleshooting it easier: rather than trying a whole host of fixes which might be irrelevant, it is narrowed down to just a few.

How Do I Fix it?

This depends….

One-Off Problem

If you have been using Firestorm for some time, and only got this once, or rarely, then it probably happened because you were in a very graphics intensive location. The “fix” therefore is to lower draw distance before going to such places, and keep it low till you leave.

Be aware that the message, once it appears, will not simply go away; you will need to relog. This is advisable anyway as new textures will most probably fail to rez.

It Keeps Happening Over and Over

In that case, Firestorm is trying to use more memory than you have available (remember the 32 bit limitation mentioned above). You need to reduce memory usage. For example:

  • If you have a 64-bit system and more than 4 GB of memory (RAM), you can try one of the 64-bit Firestorm versions. These are less subject to this kind of crashing. You can quickly check this information in the viewer by going to the Help Menu - About Firestorm.
  • PreferencesGraphics -> Hardware Settings→ Viewer Texture Memory Buffer - reduce by 128.
ie, if it is current at 512, reduce to 384; if it is at 384, reduce to 256; if at 256, reduce to 128.
    Do not set below 128.
  • Reduce your normal draw distance
  • Preferences → Graphics → Hardware Settings → Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects - Disable this.
  • Reduce your inventory size by boxing up items, clearing your trash and/or deleting old stuff. Also, do not open multiple inventory floaters unless you really have to.
  • IMPORTANT: Do NOT do the following if you are using a 64 bit operating system!
If you don't have the Advanced menu enabled, enable it with Ctrl-Alt-D. Then, Advanced → Debug Settings. Type in FSDestroyGLTexturesImmediately and set to TRUE.
This is likely to use more bandwidth and mean textures that have previously loaded will go grey quickly when you look away, but it should reduce the frequency of crashes.

Firestorm Inventory

Inventory Icon

The Firestorm inventory window is accessed by clicking the inventory icon on the bottom button bar.

This will open the inventory window, which is initially docked, but as with all other such windows, may be undocked. A typical inventory window looks like the one below.

Inventory Window

#Firestorm System Folders

These are special Firestorm Viewer folders which are “protected” by default to prevent inadvertent mishaps.

#AO:

For more information, see Animation Overrider

#LSL Bridge:

For more information, see Firestorm LSL Bridge

#RLV:

Restrained Love. For basic setup, see RLVa Quick Setup

#Wearable Favorites:

The Wearable Favorites window allows you to list frequently used items, HUDs as an example, in an easily accessible location so that you can quickly attach and detach them as needed. See Wearable Favorites

The Inventory Window

Top Icons

  • Help: Click the question mark to get help - this page.
  • Minimize: The horizontal line will minimize the window on your screen.
  • Close: To the right of the redock arrow is an X; clicking this will close the inventory window. To reopen, click the inventory button again, as described above.
  • Filter: If you wish to search for items with specific names, type part of the name here. Partial matches work; for example, if you type in hair it will match chair as well as hair. The inventory folders will open and all matching items will be shown, but not others. To remove the filter, click the X that appears at the end of that edit box.
  • Collapse: Clicking this will close all open inventory folders.
  • Expand: To open all inventory folders, click this button.
  • Filter Types Dropdown: You can narrow your inventory search by a single type of content with the dropdown menu. For more detailed filtering, click Custom at the bottom of this menu.

Inventory Views

There are three views available in the inventory window; you can toggle between them by clicking the tabs described below:

  • INVENTORY: This tab displays your entire inventory in the window.
  • RECENT: Clicking this tab will reduce the inventory to showing only recent items. By default, this means all items acquired since last login. This default can be changed - see below.
  • WORN: This tab shows only those items in your inventory which are currently worn.

Below these three tabs is your inventory proper. Inventory is organized into a hierarchical tree. By default, the main inventory consists of two folders, which you cannot rename: Inventory and Library. Within Inventory are more folders. Some of these are system folders, meaning they have default and standard uses and cannot be removed or renamed or moved; all other folders here can be manipulated at will. For the most part, this main folder will contain items you accumulate in SL, things you purchase, or make.

The Library folder, on the other hand, is supplied by SL. It contains all manner of things which might be of use. You are free to use items in this folder as you wish, but you may not delete or otherwise manipulate the contents.

If a folder icon has a small arrow to the left, then it contains items; click that arrow to expand the folder. Folders may contain single items or other folders, or a mix of both. Items may be objects, textures, animations, and so on.

If you click on any folder, to the left of the name you will see the number of elements in the folder, that is, actual items, and subfolders. Referencing the image above, the Objects folder shown contains 28 items, and 6 subfolders.

Note that the total displayed (6616 in the image) includes items and folders.

Inventory Functions

Below the inventory view are more icons:

Inventory Window with Gear Menu

  • Gear: Clicking this icon pops open a menu, shown to the right. The entries in the menu are as follows:
    • New Inventory Window: Open a new inventory window. Note that if you have a lot of items this may take a moment to open.
    • Sort by Name/Most Recent: Sets how you wish folders and items to be sorted in the inventory display.
    • Sort Folders Always by Name: This forces folders to sort alphabetically, regardless of the setting above.
    • Sort System Folders to Top: This places the system folders at the top of the list of folders, with all the others below. System folders include: Animations, Body Parts, Calling Cards, and so on, down to Trash.
    • Search By: Allows you to search inventory according to different fields:
      • Name
      • Creator
      • Description
      • UUID
      • All
    • Add objects on double click: If enabled, double click on an attachment will cause it to be added to its attachment spot; if disabled, it will be worn (meaning any currently worn attachments on that sport will be removed).
    • Add clothes on double click: As above, but for layered clothing, as opposed to attachments.
    • Show Filters: Opens the Inventory Finder, which enables you to limit which items are visible in your inventory, according to item type.
    • Reset Filters: Clears all filters set with Show Filters.
    • Close All Folders: Same as the Collapse button.
    • Empty Lost and Found: Deletes the contents of the Lost and Found folder without moving them to the trash. Use with caution!
    • Save Textures As: Disabled unless a texture is selected in the inventory list. Then it will allow a texture to be saved to your hard drive.
    • Share: Click this to give the selected inventory item(s) or folder(s) to another avatar. A window will open, from which you may select who to give it to. This method is an alternative to dragging the item(s) onto an avatar's profile.
    • Find Original: Disabled unless the currently selected item in your inventory is an inventory link. 1)
    • Find All Links: If clicked when an item is selected, this will show all links to it - if any exist.
    • Replace Links: Used to repair broken inventory links. Refer to this page for more information.
    • Show Links: When enabled, this will display links in inventory.
    • Show Only Links: Filters the list to show links only, hiding all other items.
    • Hide Links: Prevents links from being shown.
    • Empty Trash: Removes the contents of the Trash folder. Use with caution - this cannot be undone! (Same as right clicking the trash folder and selecting Empty trash.)
  • +: Creates a new item in the currently active folder. The same options are available by right clicking a folder name.
  • Suitcase Icon: This opens a new inventory window, and is thus the same as selecting “New Inventory Window” from the gear menu.
  • Total: This shows the total count of elements (items and folders) in your inventory.

The bottom of the inventory window has 3 buttons:

  • Profile: This will be disabled unless an item is selected - then, when clicked, it will display the item's properties.
  • Share: Allows you to give the selected item(s) to another avatar. Same as dragging the item onto the avatar's profile.
  • Marketplace/Wear/Teleport/Play: The third button will change depending on what you currently have highlighted in inventory:
    • Marketplace: If you have a folder, texture or a script highlighted, then it will read Marketplace; clicking it will open the SL Marketplace in your web browser.
    • Wear: The button will show Wear if you have an wearable item, or any object, highlighted.
    • Teleport: Shown if you have a landmark highlighted.
    • Play: This shows on highlighting a gesture or animation.

Searching

Inventory can be searched by typing into the white space at the top. As you type, inventory is filtered to show only items that match what has been typed. As described above, you can search by name, creator, description or UUID.

If you want to search on multiple words, separate them with a '+', but without spaces. For example, if you are looking for a landmark that you think contains Firestorm Marina, type in: Firestorm+Marina. This will match (assuming you actually have such a landmark, of course), Firestorm Gateway Marina.

To clear the search field, click the 'x' at the end of the search bar.

Normally, search operates across all tabs in the Inventory window. If you want to use separate searchs on Inventory tabs, then go to Preferences → User Interface → Interface Windows → Allow separate search terms on each tab in inventory.

Context Menu

If you right click any inventory item or folder, you get a menu. This menu will vary depending on context; for example, right clicking a menu will give a different menu that right clicking an item.

Right Click on Item

  • Share: Selecting this allows you to give the selected item to someone else. The avatar selector window opens, allowing you to select the person you want to give it to.
  • Open: Certain types of items may be opened or previewed: scripts, notecards, textures, sounds, gestures.
  • Properties: This opens the item properties window, where you may view and change select item properties.
  • Rename: Allows you to rename the object; only available if the object is modifyable for you. (You can also press F2 to edit an item's name.)
  • Copy Asset UUID: Copies the UUID of the object to the clipboard, for some types of item.
  • Restore to Last Position: if the item is an object, this will cause it to be rezzed out to its last position in the region. Use with caution! The function doesn't take into account the region name, only coordinates within a region. So do not use it if the object was never rezzed out in the region you are in, unless you are prepared to go hunting for it.
  • Copy: Select this to make a copy of an object. You can then use one or both of the following two to paste copies.
  • Paste: Paste a previously copied item into the folder which is currently selected. (You cannot make a copy if the item is no copy for you.)
  • Paste as Link: Pastes a link to a previously copied item, into the folder which is currently selected.
  • Replace Links: Used to repair broken inventory links. Refer to this page for more information.
  • Delete: As the name suggests, this deletes the selected item, moving it to your Trash folder.
  • Wear: Wears the item on your avatar, replacing any other items which might be already worn in the same spot.
  • Add: Wears the item on your avatar, adding it to any other items which might already be worn in the same spot.
  • Attach To: Allows you to select a body part on which to wear an object.
  • Attach to HUD: Allows you to select an HUD point on which to attach the object.

For the Recent tab only:

  • Show in Main View: Highlights the item in the Inventory tab.

For Worn Objects Only:

  • Texture Refresh: This option is only available if the object is currently being worn & refreshes the texture of the worn object.

Right Click on Folder

  • Share: Selecting this will allow you to give the folder (and its contents) to someone else. The avatar selector window opens, allowing you to select the person you want to give it to.
  • New Folder: Creates a new folder inside the currently selected one. The name will default to New Folder, and will start off in edit mode so you can rename it.
  • New Script: Creates a new, default script in the current folder.
  • New Notecard: Creates a new blank notecard in the current folder.
  • New Gesture: Creates a new gesture in the current folder.

  • Replace Current Outfit: Removes all attachments and replaces them with the contents of the current folder. If the folder contains body parts *system hair, skin, shape, eyes), any worn ones will also be replaced; if any of the four required body parts are not present in the folder, the currently worn one will remain worn.
  • Add to Current Outfit: Adds the items in the current folder to your avatar. Any worn attachments will not be removed. If the folder contains any system body parts, then the worn parts will be replaced (as you cannot wear more than one of each part).
  • Wear items: Similar to Replace (described above), except that attachments are not removed if the folder contains no replacement. For example, if you are wearing something attached to the Chest point, and the folder has no object that would attach there, the existing attachment will not be removed.
  • Remove from Current Outfit: If you are wearing any of the items in the current folder, they will be removed.
  • Rename: Allows you to rename the currently folder. This can also be accomplished by pressing F2, rather than right-clicking it.
  • Copy: Select this to make a copy of a folder. You can then use one or both of the following two to paste copies. (Naturally, this will not be available if the item is no copy for you.)
  • Paste: Paste a previously copied folder into the folder which is currently selected.
  • Paste as Link: Pastes a link to a previously copied folder, into the folder which is currently selected. As with items, this is just a reference.
  • Delete: Allows you to delete the selected folder, and everything inside it. The folder is moved to your trash.

Right Click on the #AO Folder

Aside from the usual Share option, there is a Cleanup Broken Links option. This will remove any broken links from the folder, without you having to unprotect it, and then manually go through and delete broken links.

Received Items

Firestorm - Received Items

There can be a Received Items folder or sub-panel in the inventory window. This will appear the very first time you make a purchase from the SL Marketplace.

If you prefer to have this sub-panel displayed as a normal inventory folder, open PreferencesUser Interface -> Interface Windows, and enable Show the Received Items folder in normal inventory.

See this page for documentation on Firestorm 6.0.2 (56680) and earlier.
1)
“Inventory Links” are references to an item. If you delete the referenced item, the links will “break”. It is possible to create links to no-copy items; this is the primary advantage of using inventory links. Also, if you modify the original item, all links are also changed, since they are just references to the original.
