Preferences - OpenSim

Grid Manager

This tab allows you to edit, delete or add grids that the viewer will recognize, and make available at the log in screen.

In order to be able to login to grid other than Second Life, you need to enable PreferencesAdvanced→ Allow login to other grids.

Secondly, you need the grid selector on the log in screen. If you do not see it, press Shift-Ctrl-G to activate it.

  • Add new grid: Here you can type in the login URI of a grid you wish to add to the existing list. You should consult with the specs of the grid in question to obtain the correct URI to place here. Click on Apply to save the URI; click on Clear if you change your mind.
  • Manage Grids: This shows the list of currently defined grids. Many are already present, by default.
    • Refresh: Reloads the default definitions.
    • Remove: Deletes the currently selected grid from the list.

The fields below this are auto-populated and cannot be edited:

  • Grid name
  • Grid URI
  • Login page
  • Helper URI
  • Grid Website
  • Grid Support
  • Grid Registration
  • Grid Password URI
  • Grid Search
  • Grid Message URI

Miscellaneous

  • Enable region Lightshare settings: Use OSGrid Lightshare.
  • Debug Search:
    • Override current search url: replace the default search URL (SecondLife) with a different one. The default will be used if this is left empty.

Backup

This tab allows you to backup and restore your Firestorm preferences in a safe way. This is useful in a number of situations. For example:

  • The viewer is behaving in an unusual way and settings corruption is suspected. You can create a backup of your settings prior to wiping them to defaults, to see if default settings solves the problem. If it doesn't solve the problem, you can quickly revert to your old settings.
  • You are upgrading to a new version of the viewer. Generally, this requires you clean install (which implies not only removing the old version before installing the new, but also wiping settings), since settings files tend not to be compatible between versions. You can use backup/restore to save having to manually reconfigure all setting after the upgrade.

NOTE: Not all settings are backed up. Some are not considered “safe” to restore, particularly during a viewer update.

  • Backup Path: Select the folder where your backup settings will be written; click the Set button to select the folder.
(Please do NOT store directly to your dekstop.)

Below are three groups of settings which may be saved/restored:

  • Global files: Settings which affect all accounts;
  • Per Account FIles: Settings whcih can be different for each account;
  • Folders: This includes custom selection beams, windlight, and so on

To select all of the available settings for backup/restore, click the Select All button; Deselect All unchecks all of them, allowing manual selection of just some.

  • Restore global settings: Check this if you wish the restore operation to restore the settings listed in the Global Files column.
  • Restore per account settings: Check this if you want the restore function to restore settings listed in the Per account Files column.
  • Backup Settings: Click this button to create a backup of your settings, to the folder specified at the top.
  • Restore Settings: Click this to restore settings previously saved by a Backup.

For step by step instructions, please refer to this page; there is a video tutorial here.

Debug Settings

Please do not alter debug settings unless you know what you are doing. If the viewer “breaks”, you own both parts.

Some settings may have side effects, and if you forget what you changed, the only way to revert to the default behavior might be to manually clear all settings.
Also note that the settings given here are outdated; newer settings are not listed.

Debug settings are accessed, in Firestorm, from the Advanced menu. If you cannot see this menu in the menu bar, press Ctrl-Alt-D. Alternately, you can bring up debug settings by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S.

The following is a list of default settings used by various viewer modes:

Firestorm Windows Builds

This page describes all necessary steps to build the Firestorm viewer for Windows, using the updated build infrastructure introduced with Linden Lab's project Alex Ivy.

NOTE: This description is NOT valid for building versions of the viewer prior to the Alex Ivy merge (revision 54609)!

Install required development tools

This is needed for compiling any viewer based on the Linden Lab open source code and only needs to be done once.

All installations are done with default settings (unless told specific) if you change that your on your own

Windows

  • Install Windows 10 Pro 64bit using your own product key
  • Alternatively: Install Windows 7 or 8.1 Pro 64bit

Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Professional

  • Install Visual Studio 2013 Professional
  • Note: If you don't own a copy of Visual Studio 2013 Professional, you might consider installing the Community version (requires creating a Microsoft account if you do not already have one ) (If the download link for 2013 on visualstudio.com leads to a dead page even after logging in and out and back in again, try Googling “Visual Studio 2013 Community update 5 download” for a direct link. MS has recently changed things with accounts and subscriptions.)
    • Run the installer as Administrator (right click, “Run as administrator”)
    • Uncheck all the “Optional features to install:” - they are not required

DirectX SDK

  • Download and install DirectX SDK (June 2010)
    • Run the installer as Administrator (right click, “Run as administrator”)
    • At the Installation Options screen, set everything except the DirectX Headers and Libs to “This feature will not be installed”

Tortoise Hg

  • Download and install TortoiseHg 3.2.3 or newer (64bit)
    • Note: No option available to install as Administrator
    • Use default options (path, components etc.)
    • Add the following directory to your path:
      C:\Program Files\TortoiseHG

CMake

  • Download and install at least CMake 3.4.3 (32bit is only option)
    • Run the installer as Administrator (right click, “Run as administrator”)
    • At the “Install options” screen, select “Add CMake to the system PATH for all users”
    • For everything else, use the default options (path, etc.)
    • Make sure that the following directory was added to your path:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\CMake\bin

Cygwin

  • Download and install Cygwin 64 (64bit)
    • Run the installer as Administrator (right click, “Run as administrator”)
    • Use default options (path, components etc.) *until* you get to the “Select Packages” screen
    • Add additional packages:
      • Devel/patch
    • Use default options for everything else
    • Make sure that the following directory was added to your path.:
      C:\Cygwin64\bin

Python

  • Download and install the most recent version of Python 2.7 (32bit)
    • Linden Lab advises to use the 32bit version as the VMP requires it. However, Firestorm currently doesn't use VMP, so the 64bit version might work (use at own risk!)
    • Note: No option available to install as Administrator
    • Use default options (path, components etc.) until you get to the “Customize Python” screen
    • Change “Add python.exe to Path” to “Will be installed on local hard drive”
    • Add the Python installation dir to the system path:
      C:\Python27

Intermediate check

Confirm things are installed properly so far by opening a Cygwin terminal and enter:

cmake --version
hg --version
python --version

If they all report sensible values and not “Command not found” errors, then you are in good shape.

Set up Autobuild and Python

  • Install Boostrip pip
    • Download (Save As) get-pip.py and copy to a temp folder
    • Open Windows Command Prompt
    • Switch to that temp folder and execute it:
      python get-pip.py
    • Pip will be installed
    • Add the following directory to your path:
      C:\Python27\Scripts
  • Install Autobuild
    • Open Windows Command Prompt and enter:
      pip install hg+http://bitbucket.org/lindenlab/autobuild-1.1#egg=autobuild
    • Autobuild will be installed. Earlier versions of Autobuild could be made to work by just putting the source files into your path correctly; this is no longer true - Autobuild must be installed as described here.
  • Set environment variable AUTOBUILD_VSVER to 120
  • Check Autobuild version to be 1.1.7 or higher:
    autobuild --version

NSIS (Unicode)

  • You must install the Unicode version here and not the one from the NSIS page
  • Not required unless you need to build an actual viewer installer for distribution, or change the NSIS installer package logic itself

Setup viewer build variables

In order to make it easier to build collections of related packages (such as the viewer and all the library packages that it imports) with the same compilation options, Autobuild expects a file of variable definitions. This can be set using the environmenat variable AUTOBUILD_VARIABLES_FILE.

  • Clone the build variables repository:
    hg clone https://hg.phoenixviewer.com/fs-build-variables <path-to-your-variables-file>
  • Set the environment variable AUTOBUILD_VARIABLES_FILE to
    <path-to-your-variables-file>\variables

Configure Visual Studio 2013 (optional)

  • Start the IDE
  • Navigate to Tools> Options> Projects and Solutions> Build and Run and set maximum number of parallel projects builds to 1.

Set up your source code tree

Plan your directory structure ahead of time. If you are going to be producing changes or patches you will be cloning a copy of an unaltered source code tree for every change or patch you make, so you might want to have all this work stored in its own directory. If you are a casual compiler and won't be producing any changes, you can use one directory. For this document, it is assumed that you created a folder c:\firestorm.

c:
cd \firestorm
hg clone https://hg.phoenixviewer.com/phoenix-firestorm-lgpl

This can take a bit, it's a rather large download.

Prepare third party libraries

Most third party libraries needed to build the viewer will be automatically downloaded for you and installed into the build directory within your source tree during compilation. Some need to be manually prepared and are not normally required when using an open source configuration (ReleaseFS_open).

FMOD Studio using Autobuild

Note: This typically needs to only be done once since FMOD Studio rarely changes. FMOD Studio can be downloaded here (requires creating an account to access the download section). Make sure to download the FMOD Studio API and not the FMOD Studio Tool!

c:
cd \firestorm
hg clone https://bitbucket.org/Ansariel/3p-fmodstudio
  • After you have cloned the repository, copy the downloaded FMOD Studio installer file to C:\Firestorm
  • If you downloaded a different version of FMOD Studio that is currently used in the viewer, you will have to modify the file build-cmd.sh in the root of the repository. Right at the top, you find the version number of FMOD Studio you want to package (one short version without separator and one long version). Change these values to the version you downloaded:
FMOD_VERSION="11002"
FMOD_VERSION_PRETTY="1.10.02"

Continue on the Windows command line:

c:
cd \firestorm\3p-fmodstudio
autobuild build --all
autobuild package

While running the Autobuild build command, Windows might ask if you want to allow making changes to the computer. This is because of the FMOD Studio installer being executed. Allow these changes to be made.

Near the end of the output you will see the package name written and the md5 hash below it:

wrote C:\firestorm\3p-fmodstudio\fmodstudio-{version#}-windows-{build_id}.tar.bz2
md5 c3f696412ef74f1559c6d023efe3a087

where {version#} is the version of FMOD Studio (like 1.10.02) and {build_id} is an internal build id of the package.

cd \firestorm\phoenix-firestorm-lgpl
cp autobuild.xml my_autobuild.xml
set AUTOBUILD_CONFIG_FILE=my_autobuild.xml

Copy the FMOD Studio path and md5 value from the package process into this command:

autobuild installables edit fmodstudio platform=windows hash=<md5 value> url=file:///<fmodstudio path>

For example:

autobuild installables edit fmodstudio platform=windows hash=c3f696412ef74f1559c6d023efe3a087 url=file:///C:\firestorm\3p-fmodstudio\fmodstudio-1.10.02-windows-180191431.tar.bz2

Note: Having to copy autobuild.xml and modify the copy from within a cloned repository is a lot of work for every repository you make, but this is the only way to guarantee you pick up upstream changes to autobuild.xml and do not send up a modified autobuild.xml when you do an hg push.

Configuring the viewer

Open the Windows command prompt.

If you are building with FMOD Studio and have followed the previous FMOD Studio setup instructions AND you are now using a new terminal you will need to reset the environment variable first by entering

set AUTOBUILD_CONFIG_FILE=my_autobuild.xml

Then enter:

 c:
 cd \firestorm\phoenix-firestorm-lgpl
 autobuild configure -c ReleaseFS_open

This will configure Firestorm to be built with all defaults and without third party libraries.

Note: Configuring the viewer for the first time will take some time to download all the required third-party libraries. As of Autobuild 1.1, the download progress is hidden by default. If you want to watch the download progress, you can use the verbose option to display a more detailed output:

autobuild configure -v -c ReleaseFS_open

Configuration switches

There are a number of switches you can use to modify the configuration process. The name of each switch is followed by its type and then by the value you want to set.

  • -A <architecture> sets the target architecture, that is if you want to build a 32bit or 64bit viewer (32bit is default if omitted).
  • –fmodstudio controls if the FMOD Studio package is incorporated into the viewer. You must have performed the FMOD Studio installation steps in FMOD Studio using Autobuild for this to work.
  • –package makes sure all files are copied into viewers output directory. You won't be able to start your compiled viewer if you don't enable package or do 'compile' it in VS.
  • –chan <channel name> lets you define a custom channel name for the viewer
  • -LL_TESTS:BOOL=<bool> controls if the tests are compiled and run. There are quite a lot of them so excluding them is recommended unless you have some reason to need one or
    more of them.

TIP: OFF and NO are the same as FALSE; anything else is considered to be TRUE

Examples:

  • To build a 32bit viewer with FMOD Studio and to create an installer package, run this command in the Windows command window:
autobuild configure -c ReleaseFS_open -- --fmodstudio --package --chan MyViewer -DLL_TESTS:BOOL=FALSE
  • To build a 64bit viewer without FMOD Studio and without installer package, run this command:
    autobuild configure -A 64 -c ReleaseFS_open -- --chan MyViewer -DLL_TESTS:BOOL=FALSE

Building the viewer

There are two ways to build the viewer: Via Windows command line or from within Visual Studio.

Building from the Windows command line

If you are building with FMOD Studio and have followed the previous FMOD Studio setup instructions AND you are now using a new terminal you will need to reset the environment variable with

set AUTOBUILD_CONFIG_FILE=my_autobuild.xml

Then run the Autobuild build command. Make sure you include the same architecture parameter you used while configuring the viewer:

autobuild build -A 64 -c ReleaseFS_open --no-configure

Now, sit back, read War and Peace, calculate PI to 50 places, tour the country, whatever you desire. Compiling will take quite a bit of time.

Building from within Visual Studio

Inside the Firestorm source folder, you will find a folder named build-vc120-<architecture>, with <architecture> either being 32 or 64, depending on what you chose during the configuration step. Inside the folder is the Visual Studio solution file for Firestorm, called Firestorm.sln.

  • Double-click Firestorm.sln to open the Firestorm solution in Visual Studio.
  • From the menu, choose Build → Build Solution
  • Wait until the build is finished

Parallel building of pre Alex Ivy viewers

Older versions of the viewer before the merge of Linden Lab's project Alex Ivy use Autobuild 1.0 that is incompatible with the build process as it is now. By default it is not possible to install two different versions of Autobuild on the same computer at the same time. Making use of virtualenv will overcome this problem, allowing simultaneous installations of Autobuild 1.0 and Autobuild 1.1 in two distinct “virtual” Python environments.

Install virtualenv

Install virtualenv by opening a Windows command prompt and enter:

pip install virtualenv

This requires the Boostrip pip already installed. After virtualenv has been installed, you can create virtual Python environments using the command

virtualenv <virtual-environment-name>

This will create the directory <virtual-environment-name> within the Python installation folder and add some required folders and files. Among these files is a batch file called activate.bat in the folder Scripts. To switch to the newly created virtual environment execute the activate.bat batch file. After switching to the virtual environment, your command prompt will be prepended by the name of the virtual environment.

In this example we will create a virtual environment called “Autobuild11”:

virtualenv Autobuild11
c:\Python27\Autobuild11\Scripts\Activate.bat

Your command prompt should look like this now:

(Autobuild11) C:\

After you switched to a particular virtual environment, you can now install as described in Set up Autobuild and Python.

Complete example:

virtualenv Autobuild11
c:\Python27\Autobuild11\Scripts\Activate.bat
pip install hg+http://bitbucket.org/lindenlab/autobuild-1.1#egg=autobuild

Configuring and building the viewer

Configuring and building the viewer from the Windows command line is basically identical as described in Building from the Windows command line with the difference that you now have to call the activate script first:

c:
\Python27\Autobuild11\Scripts\Activate.bat
cd \firestorm\phoenix-firestorm-lgpl
autobuild configure -c ReleaseFS_open -- --fmodstudio --package --chan MyViewer -DLL_TESTS:BOOL=FALSE
autobuild build -A 64 -c ReleaseFS_open --no-configure

If you plan to build the viewer from within Visual Studio, you will have to configure the viewer the same way as if you were to build from the Windows command line:

c:
\Python27\Autobuild11\Scripts\Activate.bat
cd \firestorm\phoenix-firestorm-lgpl
autobuild configure -c ReleaseFS_open -- --fmodstudio --package --chan MyViewer -DLL_TESTS:BOOL=FALSE

To be able to build from Visual Studio, you will have to set a Windows environment variable called VIRTUAL_ENV pointing at the virtual Python environment to use, in our example “C:\Python27\Autobuild11”. Now open the Firestorm Visual Studio solution to start Visual Studio and build the viewer.

NOTE: Setting the VIRTUAL_ENV environment variable only has an effect if building a version greater or equal than 53671! If you plan to build older versions of Firestorm, it is advised to install Autobuild 1.0 as the default Autobuild version and create a virtual environment for Autobuild 1.1!

Toolbox Window - Edit/Build Mode - Texture Tab

Texture Tab - Edit/Build Mode

This page covers the Texture tab of the toolbox window in Edit and Build modes. This tab is shown in the image to the right. The upper section of this window is described here.

In Edit mode, fields will be unavailable if the object is not modifyable.

NOTE: The term “Object” is used to refer to a single unlinked prim, or to a linked set of prims.
Note that the overall properties of a linked set are the same as the properties of the root prim.

NOTE: All of the texture parameters described below apply to all selected faces of an object. If you have not selected any explicitly, then the entire object will be affected by any changes made.

  • Color Picker: Opens the color picker, which may be used to tint the object.
  • Transparency: This allows you to make the selected face(s) or object(s) partly transparent. The value is expressed as a percentage, with the maximum being 100% (totally transparent).
  • Glow: Causes the object to glow. Note that Glow does not imply light; Glow is a very different visual effect. Glow can vary from 0 (totally off) to 1.
  • Full Bright: Check to exclude selected faces from external lighting and shadow effects and render them at full, neutral brightness. Commonly used on screens displaying media and information signs. And often overused to ill-effect on plants and buildings.

Then there is a drop-down menu which allows you to select what kind of information the prim (or prim face) will show: a texture or media.

Materials

Seeing, and therefore editing, Materials requires that Advanced Lighting Model be enabled. This can be doen in PreferencesGraphics -> General.

Use this mode to apply standard textures to an object. Aside from that, you can also apply bump (normal) and shiny (specular) images for added effects1). This combination is known as materials.
The drop-down to the right allows you to select which of these three types of images you are working with. Depending on the current seelction, the options immediately below will vary.

  • Texture (diffuse)
    • Texture Picker: Opens a window from which you may select a new texture to be applied to the selected face(s) or object(s). This includes use of the local bitmap browser. You can also drag a texture from your inventory onto the square. See here for more information on the texture picker.
    • Alpha mode: If the texture has no alpha channel, this will be greyed out and set to None. Otherise, it can be set to one of the following2):

      • None: Alpha channel data is ignored.
      • Alpha Blending: The value is a degree of transparency (255 = opaque, 0 = fully transparent)
      • Alpha Masking: The value (0…255) is compared to the Alpha Cutoff parameter (below); if the pixel is greater than the cutoff, it is fully opaque; if not, it is fully transparent.
      • Emissive Mask: The value is used to encode how brightly the pixel appears in the absence of light (ambiance): 0 = no additional ambiance (default); 255 = full brightness.
    • Mask Cutoff: Used only when Alpha Mode is Alpha Masking (see description of that mode above).
  • Bumpiness (normal)3)
    • Texture Picker: Opens a window from which you may select a new texture to used as a bump (normal) map for the face.
Or you can leave that blank and use one of the default bump maps from the drop-down to the right - or none.
  • Shininess (specular):4)
    • Texture Picker: Opens a window from which you may select a new texture to used for the texture shininess.
Or you can leave that blank and use one of the old-style values (low, medium, high) - or none.
    • Glossiness: This controls the “glossiness”, or the roughness, of the reflected light on a surface. The lower this value is, the “rougher” the light reflectance is, while the higher the value the “sharper” the light reflectance is. When the normal map’s alpha channel is present, the specular exponent map contained in it is modulated by this parameter.
    • Environment: Modulates the intensity of the environment on the surface as a whole.
    • Color: Tints the light reflected from the object; this value is combined with any value from the color for the pixel as specified in the Specular Map, if any.

Texture Channel Encoding

How the renderer will treat each color value in a texture image channel.

ParameterRedGreenBlueAlpha
Diffuse MapRed Green Blue selectable; see alpha mode
Normal Map Normal X Axis Normal Y Axis Normal Z Axis Specular exponent
Specular MapRed Green Blue Environment intensity

Media

Media is usually applied to single faces of a prim, so before starting, select a specific face.

Click the Choose… button to select a media URL. The media settings window opens. Specify the URL to display and select other parameters as appropriate.

To change the URL, click the Choose… button again; to remove the media altogether, click the Remove button.

The Align button automatically stretches and aligns media to fit the face(s) it's displayed on. Align relies on the Size setting in Media Settings to determine the correct aspect ratio.

Mapping

The remainer of this tab of the Toolbox applies both to textures and media.

  • Mapping: How textures are mapped onto the object. A typical use for Planar is reducing distortion on angled surfaces. There is a Torley tutorial on planar mapping here.
  • Horizontal/Vertical Scale: Sets how many times the applied texture is repeated. Use Flip to reverse the texture's orientation.
  • Repeats / Meter: Sets how many times the texture is repeated per meter.
  • Rotation: Rotates the texture on the selected face(s) or object(s).
  • Horizontal/Vertical Offset: Shifts the center of the texture relative to the center of the face. Generally used to align textures across objects.
Note that if you select a specific face, you can press and hold the Control key to manually drag the texture across the prim face.
  • Align planar faces: This can be used to align textures of different prim faces, a very handy tool. It requires that the faces have Planar texture alignment. Select all the faces, then click this box. The textures will align to the last face selected.
  • Synchronize materials: If you enable this, then any changes made while editing (for example) the bumpiness parameters will also be applied to the other two (etxture and shininess).

Then there are two buttons:

  • Copy button: Copies all the texture parameters for use on another face or object.
  • Paste button: Sets all textures parameters from values previously copied.
1)
For an introduction to materials, see this SL wiki page.
2)
Note that using any alpha mode other than Transparency may cause problems when rendered with viewers that do not yet support materials because they will be rendered as blended transparency.
3)
A normal map is an image whose color data encodes changes to the “normal” for each pixel on the surface. The normal is the direction that the pixel “faces” for the purpose of determining how it is illuminated by and reflects light sources (imagine that each pixel is turned on tiny pivots). The alpha channel of the Normal Map may contain a specular exponent value that is mutilplied by the “Glossiness” parameter. A higher alpha value will result in specular highlights that are brighter and tighter. Keep in mind these are OpenGL style normal maps, where bright green is up and bright red is right. For details on what a normal map is and for a sample normal map see here. See also the Texture Channel Encoding table.
4)
This encodes the color of the light reflected by each pixel on the surface. See the Texture Channel Encoding table. The Alpha channel value of the Specular Map encodes the environment intensity. A lower value in the alpha channel will diminish the impact of the environment map reflections on the surface of the object.

Getting Help with Firestorm Viewer

If you have a problem using Firestorm, there are a number of ways in which you can get help. It is strongly recommended that you try the following, in order.

As of 1 Jan 2013, support for Phoenix Viewer has been discontinued. You may consult the Phoenix Viewer Wiki for information.

Online Documentation

The viewer has extensive online documentation, explaining the features and how to use them. If there is some feature which you do not know how to use, then please consult the documentation.

Things Not Working Correctly

If you have problems with things not working as they should, or are crashing a lot, or being disconnected, etc, then the best place to go is the troubleshooting section of our online wiki.

Getting Help In-World

If the above do not provide a solution for you, or you need urgent help, then the best way is to contact one of our several in-world Firestorm support groups. Please view our tips, rules, and guidelines for our help groups here.

Please note, group chat lag can be a serious issue. So when you go to a support group for help, please bear in mind the following:

  • Please indicate what viewer you are using, and what operating system you are using (Windows, OSX, linux) and which version.
Recent versions of Firestorm have a checkbox in the English support group chat window: Specify version; please enable this to make it easier for the support team to assist you.
  • Your question may not show up for some time; allow time for it to post, and therefore time for people to see it and respond. Posting over and over is not helpful.
  • Chat lag frequently results in posts appearing out of order, so rather than post multiple short lines, try to express your issue all on one line, as concisely and clearly as possible.
  • If your question has an answer on the wiki, you will very likely be pointed to the relevant page; the solution there will be far more detailed than what help can be given in the group.
  • Please remember that support staff are volunteers, and help out on their own time, without pay. They may not be able to help, but they do try. Be respectful.
  • Support groups (except where noted) are PG, so please mind your language. While off-topic chat is allowed, it must give way to support issues. No advertising, no hating, no flaming, no drama; no spamming, advertising or begging.

In-World Classes

We hold in-world classes explaining how to use Firestorm, what the preferences and menus mean, and so on. A great way to learn how to use the viewer, with an opportunity to ask questions as well.

The class schedule is posted here.

Filing a Support Ticket or Bug Report

If you believe you have found a bug - or if you were unable to get help from the wiki or in a support group - then please file a report via our JIRA (bug tracker). In order to best help, please supply basic information.

Firestorm-Based Viewers

The Firestorm Support Team only provides support for the latest official release of Firestorm Viewer. Earlier versions, even those released by the Firestorm team, are subject to limited or no support.

CtrlAltStudio Viewer (CAS) is a third-party viewer that is substantially based on but unrelated to Firestorm. At present, its website tells users:

  • If the problem you’re having or suggestion for improvement is not for one of the CtrlAltStudio Viewer specific features (see the list here), please check whether it’s also a problem with or suggestion for the Firestorm viewer; if it is then direct your enquiry to them.

This is not to be interpreted to mean that users should seek help with CAS problems from the Firestorm Support Team. It concerns the development of the viewer, rather than support, which means the appropriate source for such information is the JIRA, where viewer bug reports and feature requests are handled.

Steps for addressing your CAS problem:

  • Search the JIRA to see if your issue has been reported and is being addressed as a bug. If it is, comment on and/or follow this JIRA (you’ll need a JIRA account to do either); if there are workarounds, they are likely discussed in the comments. If there aren’t, there is nothing further you can do until the bug is fixed. Note that you must be have tested your issue on a current version of Firestorm if you are commenting on an open issue.
  • Note that because CAS releases may not be current to Firestorm releases, a bug might already have been fixed, and the fix could be available on the latest version of Firestorm. If/when this is the case, CAS will not have the fix until its developer(s) update it.
  • If your bug has not been reported yet, download the current official version of Firestorm to test for the presence of the bug and then file a JIRA of your own. You must test your issue on the current official version of Firestorm before doing so. Bugs that are reported without current Firestorm system information will be closed.

Self-Compiled Versions of Firestorm

Even if the version of Firestorm you are running is the same as the current official version, we cannot provide support for it in our support groups if you built it on your own system. There might be subtle differences in build environments that generate unexpected results. Download the latest official version and test there before reporting your bug or seeking support.

Earlier Versions of Firestorm

Only the most recent official release of the viewer is supported. Additional previous versions continue to be available (usually the two most recent builds but sometimes one or two more) under the assumption that if they work for you, there is no need to force an update. If problems develop, however, you must update to the most recent version to receive assistance.

Support for Other (Non-Bug) Issues

If you know or suspect that your problem is not a viewer bug:

  • Begin your troubleshooting by downloading the latest version of Firestorm to see if the issue exists there, as well.
  • Use the troubleshooting section of the Firestorm wiki to search for solutions to your problem.
  • If you cannot find an adequate solution to your problem, you can join one of the Firestorm support groups to ask for help, but you must be using or have tested on the most recent official release of Firestorm to receive help.

Come ottenere Aiuto

  • Podaj informację jakiej przeglądarki używasz, jaki system operacyjny (Windows, OSX, Linux) - i w jakich wersjach.

  • No publicidad, No spam, No acoso, No drama.

About Land - Access Tab

About Land - access Tab

With this tab, you control who has access to your parcel.

  • Access To This Parcel:
    • Anyone can visit: If this is enabled, anyone will be able to enter the parcel - other than banned residents (see below). If you disable it, ban lines will be created; restrictions specified on the rest of the tab then apply.
      • Must be 18+: If enabled, only residents who have verified that they are adults, on the SL website, will be allowed access. Note that this is a parcel-level setting, and is not the same as the Adult setting, which is estate-level. It is possible to have Adult access without being age verified.
      • Must have payment Info on File: If this is enabled, only residents who have payment information on file with LL will be allowed access to the parcel.
  • Allow group xxx without restrictions: Enabling this allows you to restrict access to members of the group that the parcel is set to, on the General Tab.
  • Sell Passes to: Check to charge an admittance fee to your parcel and set the time period for which those passes are valid.
  • Always allowed: Use the Add button to open the Avatar Picker window to add Residents who will always have access to your parcel. Select a Resident name from your Allowed Residents list and click Remove to remove them from the list.
  • Always banned: Use the Add button to open the Avatar Picker window to add Residents who will not have access to your parcel. Select a Resident name from your Banned Residents list and click Remove to remove them from the list.

NOTE: Ban lines for residents who are explicitly excluded from entry to a parcel, extend up to 5000m above the ground; for residents excluded by other means (eg, not age verified, not members of the group, etc), the ban line extends to 50m above the ground. (Ref. SL Wiki on Limits.)
