Firestorm Inventory

Inventory Icon

The Firestorm inventory window is accessed by clicking the inventory icon on the bottom button bar.

This will open the inventory window, which is initially docked, but as with all other such windows, may be undocked. A typical inventory window looks like the one below.

Inventory Window

#Firestorm System Folders

These are special Firestorm Viewer folders which are “protected” by default to prevent inadvertent mishaps.

#AO:

For more information, see Animation Overrider

#LSL Bridge:

For more information, see Firestorm LSL Bridge

#RLV:

Restrained Love. For basic setup, see RLVa Quick Setup

#Wearable Favorites:

The Wearable Favorites window allows you to list frequently used items, HUDs as an example, in an easily accessible location so that you can quickly attach and detach them as needed. See Wearable Favorites

The Inventory Window

Top Icons

  • Help: Click the question mark to get help - this page.
  • Minimize: The horizontal line will minimize the window on your screen.
  • Close: To the right of the redock arrow is an X; clicking this will close the inventory window. To reopen, click the inventory button again, as described above.
  • Filter: If you wish to search for items with specific names, type part of the name here. Partial matches work; for example, if you type in hair it will match chair as well as hair. The inventory folders will open and all matching items will be shown, but not others. To remove the filter, click the X that appears at the end of that edit box.
  • Collapse: Clicking this will close all open inventory folders.
  • Expand: To open all inventory folders, click this button.
  • Filter Types Dropdown: You can narrow your inventory search by a single type of content with the dropdown menu. For more detailed filtering, click Custom at the bottom of this menu.

Inventory Views

There are three views available in the inventory window; you can toggle between them by clicking the tabs described below:

  • INVENTORY: This tab displays your entire inventory in the window.
  • RECENT: Clicking this tab will reduce the inventory to showing only recent items. By default, this means all items acquired since last login. This default can be changed - see below.
  • WORN: This tab shows only those items in your inventory which are currently worn.

Below these three tabs is your inventory proper. Inventory is organized into a hierarchical tree. By default, the main inventory consists of two folders, which you cannot rename: Inventory and Library. Within Inventory are more folders. Some of these are system folders, meaning they have default and standard uses and cannot be removed or renamed or moved; all other folders here can be manipulated at will. For the most part, this main folder will contain items you accumulate in SL, things you purchase, or make.

The Library folder, on the other hand, is supplied by SL. It contains all manner of things which might be of use. You are free to use items in this folder as you wish, but you may not delete or otherwise manipulate the contents.

If a folder icon has a small arrow to the left, then it contains items; click that arrow to expand the folder. Folders may contain single items or other folders, or a mix of both. Items may be objects, textures, animations, and so on.

If you click on any folder, to the left of the name you will see the number of elements in the folder, that is, actual items, and subfolders. Referencing the image above, the Objects folder shown contains 28 items, and 6 subfolders.

Note that the total displayed (6616 in the image) includes items and folders.

Inventory Functions

Below the inventory view are more icons:

Inventory Window with Gear Menu

  • Gear: Clicking this icon pops open a menu, shown to the right. The entries in the menu are as follows:
    • New Inventory Window: Open a new inventory window. Note that if you have a lot of items this may take a moment to open.
    • Sort by Name/Most Recent: Sets how you wish folders and items to be sorted in the inventory display.
    • Sort Folders Always by Name: This forces folders to sort alphabetically, regardless of the setting above.
    • Sort System Folders to Top: This places the system folders at the top of the list of folders, with all the others below. System folders include: Animations, Body Parts, Calling Cards, and so on, down to Trash.
    • Search By: Allows you to search inventory according to different fields:
      • Name
      • Creator
      • Description
      • UUID
      • All
    • Add objects on double click: If enabled, double click on an attachment will cause it to be added to its attachment spot; if disabled, it will be worn (meaning any currently worn attachments on that sport will be removed).
    • Add clothes on double click: As above, but for layered clothing, as opposed to attachments.
    • Show Filters: Opens the Inventory Finder, which enables you to limit which items are visible in your inventory, according to item type.
    • Reset Filters: Clears all filters set with Show Filters.
    • Close All Folders: Same as the Collapse button.
    • Empty Lost and Found: Deletes the contents of the Lost and Found folder without moving them to the trash. Use with caution!
    • Save Textures As: Disabled unless a texture is selected in the inventory list. Then it will allow a texture to be saved to your hard drive.
    • Share: Click this to give the selected inventory item(s) or folder(s) to another avatar. A window will open, from which you may select who to give it to. This method is an alternative to dragging the item(s) onto an avatar's profile.
    • Find Original: Disabled unless the currently selected item in your inventory is an inventory link. 1)
    • Find All Links: If clicked when an item is selected, this will show all links to it - if any exist.
    • Replace Links: Used to repair broken inventory links. Refer to this page for more information.
    • Show Links: When enabled, this will display links in inventory.
    • Show Only Links: Filters the list to show links only, hiding all other items.
    • Hide Links: Prevents links from being shown.
    • Empty Trash: Removes the contents of the Trash folder. Use with caution - this cannot be undone! (Same as right clicking the trash folder and selecting Empty trash.)
  • +: Creates a new item in the currently active folder. The same options are available by right clicking a folder name.
  • Suitcase Icon: This opens a new inventory window, and is thus the same as selecting “New Inventory Window” from the gear menu.
  • Total: This shows the total count of elements (items and folders) in your inventory.

The bottom of the inventory window has 3 buttons:

  • Profile: This will be disabled unless an item is selected - then, when clicked, it will display the item's properties.
  • Share: Allows you to give the selected item(s) to another avatar. Same as dragging the item onto the avatar's profile.
  • Marketplace/Wear/Teleport/Play: The third button will change depending on what you currently have highlighted in inventory:
    • Marketplace: If you have a folder, texture or a script highlighted, then it will read Marketplace; clicking it will open the SL Marketplace in your web browser.
    • Wear: The button will show Wear if you have an wearable item, or any object, highlighted.
    • Teleport: Shown if you have a landmark highlighted.
    • Play: This shows on highlighting a gesture or animation.

Searching

Inventory can be searched by typing into the white space at the top. As you type, inventory is filtered to show only items that match what has been typed. As described above, you can search by name, creator, description or UUID.

If you want to search on multiple words, separate them with a '+', but without spaces. For example, if you are looking for a landmark that you think contains Firestorm Marina, type in: Firestorm+Marina. This will match (assuming you actually have such a landmark, of course), Firestorm Gateway Marina.

To clear the search field, click the 'x' at the end of the search bar.

Normally, search operates across all tabs in the Inventory window. If you want to use separate searchs on Inventory tabs, then go to Preferences → User Interface → Interface Windows → Allow separate search terms on each tab in inventory.

Context Menu

If you right click any inventory item or folder, you get a menu. This menu will vary depending on context; for example, right clicking a folder will give a different menu that right clicking an item.

Right Click on Item

  • Share: Selecting this allows you to give the selected item to someone else. The avatar selector window opens, allowing you to select the person you want to give it to.
  • Open: Certain types of items may be opened or previewed: scripts, notecards, textures, sounds, gestures.
  • Properties: This opens the item properties window, where you may view and change select item properties.
  • Rename: Allows you to rename the object; only available if the object is modifyable for you. (You can also press F2 to edit an item's name.)
  • Copy Asset UUID: Copies the UUID of the object to the clipboard, for some types of item.
  • Restore to Last Position: if the item is an object, this will cause it to be rezzed out to its last position in the region. Use with caution! The function doesn't take into account the region name, only coordinates within a region. So do not use it if the object was never rezzed out in the region you are in, unless you are prepared to go hunting for it.
  • Copy: Select this to make a copy of an object. You can then use one or both of the following two to paste copies.
  • Paste: Paste a previously copied item into the folder which is currently selected. (You cannot make a copy if the item is no copy for you.)
  • Paste as Link: Pastes a link to a previously copied item, into the folder which is currently selected.
  • Replace Links: Used to repair broken inventory links. Refer to this page for more information.
  • Delete: As the name suggests, this deletes the selected item, moving it to your Trash folder.
  • Wear: Wears the item on your avatar, replacing any other items which might be already worn in the same spot.
  • Add: Wears the item on your avatar, adding it to any other items which might already be worn in the same spot.
  • Attach To: Allows you to select a body part on which to wear an object.
  • Attach to HUD: Allows you to select an HUD point on which to attach the object.

For Environment Settings only:

  • Apply only to myself: Only you will see this environment.
  • Apply to parcel: Anyone visiting your parcel can see this environment (depending on their settings). Available only to the parcel owner.
  • Apply to region: Anyone visiting the region can see this environment (depending on their settings). Available only to someone with estate rights.

For the Recent tab only:

  • Show in Main View: Highlights the item in the Inventory tab.

Right Click on Folder

  • Share: Selecting this will allow you to give the folder (and its contents) to someone else. The avatar selector window opens, allowing you to select the person you want to give it to.
  • New Folder: Creates a new folder inside the currently selected one. The name will default to New Folder, and will start off in edit mode so you can rename it.
  • New Script: Creates a new, default script in the current folder.
  • New Notecard: Creates a new blank notecard in the current folder.
  • New Gesture: Creates a new gesture in the current folder.
  • New Clothes: Creates a new clothing item in the current folder. Select the type from the sub-menu.
  • New Body Parts: Creates a new body part in the current folder. Select the type from the sub-menu.
  • New Settings: Create new Sky, Water, or Day Cycles. Select the type from the sub-menu.
  • Use as default for: Allows you to set the folder as the default folder for uploads of images, sounds, animations or (mesh) models. To view the current default folder settings, look in PreferencesFirestorm -> Uploads.
  • Replace Current Outfit: Removes all attachments and replaces them with the contents of the current folder. If the folder contains body parts *system hair, skin, shape, eyes), any worn ones will also be replaced; if any of the four required body parts are not present in the folder, the currently worn one will remain worn.
  • Add to Current Outfit: Adds the items in the current folder to your avatar. Any worn attachments will not be removed. If the folder contains any system body parts, then the worn parts will be replaced (as you cannot wear more than one of each part).
  • Wear items: Similar to Replace (described above), except that attachments are not removed if the folder contains no replacement. For example, if you are wearing something attached to the Chest point, and the folder has no object that would attach there, the existing attachment will not be removed.
  • Remove from Current Outfit: If you are wearing any of the items in the current folder, they will be removed.
  • Rename: Allows you to rename the currently folder. This can also be accomplished by pressing F2, rather than right-clicking it.
  • Copy: Select this to make a copy of a folder. You can then use one or both of the following two to paste copies. (Naturally, this will not be available if the item is no copy for you.)
  • Paste: Paste a previously copied folder into the folder which is currently selected.
  • Paste as Link: Pastes a link to a previously copied folder, into the folder which is currently selected. As with items, this is just a reference.
  • Delete: Allows you to delete the selected folder, and everything inside it. The folder is moved to your trash.

Right Click on the #AO Folder

Aside from the usual Share option, there is a Cleanup Broken Links option. This will remove any broken links from the folder, without you having to unprotect it, and then manually go through and delete broken links.

Direct Delivery

Firestorm - Received Items

With the advent of Direct Delivery, there can now be a new Received items folder or sub-panel in the inventory window. This will appear the very first time you make a purchase from the SL Marketplace, that is sent by Direct Delivery - as opposed to the previous “Magic Box” system.

If you prefer to have this sub-panel displayed as a normal inventory folder, open PreferencesUser Interface -> Interface Windows, and enable Show the Received Items folder in normal inventory.

For more information on Direct Delivery, please see the Direct Delivery FAQ.

See this page for documentation on Firestorm 6.0.2 (56680) and earlier.
1)
“Inventory Links” are references to an item. If you delete the referenced item, the links will “break”. It is possible to create links to no-copy items; this is the primary advantage of using inventory links. Also, if you modify the original item, all links are also changed, since they are just references to the original.

Clicking on a SLURL Doesn't Activate the Viewer

Windows

SLURL Proxy

slurl_proxy1.jpg

What is this ?

SLURL Proxy is an application that will handle SLURLs on your Windows system. Clicking a slurl on the web, will open SLURL Proxy, which will forward the SLURL to the viewer you have chosen. Alternatively, SLURL Proxy gives you the option to set a viewer of choice directly, without using the proxy function.

Why is that interesting ?

Various Second Life viewers you might, or may already have installed, overwrite your registry settings and change the way slurls are handled on your system, but without asking you.

SLURL Proxy provides an easy and user friendly way to correct this, without you having to tamper with your registry, and whenever you feel like changing your settings.

You can download SLURL Proxy, and unpack it to a location of your choice. Double click SLURL Proxy.exe to start it.

How to use it ?

Upon start up, SLURL Proxy will check to see if it's the default slurl handler. If it is not, it will inform you about that, and ask you if you'd like to use SLURL Proxy as default instead.

When you have set SLURL Proxy as default,(or even before that) you can simply drag one or more viewer shortcuts onto the application window, and they should be listed with viewer name, and icon. After this, you can close SLURL Proxy and it's ready to go.

SLURL Proxy allows you to add several viewers, and one always needs to be the default viewer to use. The default viewer is the one where the checkbox is checked. If you would like to change the default viewer, simply click the viewer of your choice in the list.

That's it.

Firefox or Chrome might be asking you what application to use when you click a slurl on the web, and if so, it will also display a choice of associated applications, in which the application you defined as default (for example SLURL Proxy or a Viewer.exe), will be highlighted.

Internet Explorer should simply be showing a dialog that informs you about the application that is trying to handle the clicked slurl, and if you want to allow that.

If you wish to set a viewer as default slurl handler instead of SLURL proxy, then you simply need to click Set other SLURL handler in the menu, and drag the shortcut of your favourite viewer onto the window.

Requires .NET 3.5 and only runs on Windows

The file you download, is a packaged as a zip archive.

SLURLs opening in a different Viewer?

  • Start SLURL Proxy
  • In the dialog asking if SLURL Proxy should be the default SLURL handler, click NO
  • In the top menu, click “Set other SLURL handler”
  • Drag your Firestorm short cut onto the SLURL Proxy Window
  • You're done and can close SLURL Proxy

Please note : If you already have a Viewer running, then any SLURLs will open in that Viewer, regardless of your settings.

Other Windows Instructions

  1. Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button and then clicking Default Programs.
  2. Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
  3. Click the file type or protocol that you want the program to act as the default for.
  4. Click Change program.

FireFox

In Firefox, goto Tools → Options → Applications Tab and scroll to Secondlife. Look to see if Firestorm is listed, if not, select “other”, then browse your hard drive to find the Firestorm.exe, click on it, select Open, then click Ok. (Reference: Applications panel—Set how Firefox handles different types of files.)

OR

Download and install the regular SL viewer - but don't run it.

OR

Try this if the above does not work:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/gaming-games-multimedia-entertainment/104105-how-firefox-calls-secondlife-slurls.html

Internet Explorer, Chrome and Safari

Download and install the regular SL viewer - but don't run it.

Chrome

If none of the above works, then try this as a last resort fix. Go into Chrome settings, the advanced Settings, at the bottom, then Reset Chrome. Please note that this will wipe all your customized Chrome settings.

Mac OS X

The application that handles a URL is a system-wide setting, not tied to any one browser. You can change the setting like this:

  • Download RCDefaultApp 2.1 from the RubiCode download page. Yes, it really will run on current versions of OS X, even though it also runs all the way back to 10.2.
  • Install it according to the instructions int he README file.
  • Go to the Apple menu at the top left. Select System Preferences… then Default Apps (near the bottom), then the URLs tab. Now scroll down until you see secondlife in the list on the left. Click on it.
  • Now select the application you wish to use.

Linux

  • Open Firefox and in the address bar type in “about:config”
  • Now right click anywhere on that page and choose New and then Boolean to create a new Boolean entry, when prompted for the name of the entry enter “network.protocol-handler.expose.secondlife” (without quotes) then set the entry to 'false', click ok and your just about done.
  • Now the next time you click a slurl you will be prompted to choose an application to open it with, just browse to the folder you installed Firestorm into and select the file named 'firestorm' (a shell script file). Then before you click Ok, make sure you check the little box to make Firefox remember your choice on how to open slurls. 1)

Information gleaned from this page.

Work Around

There is an alternative to clicking a link in a browser to have it pass control to the viewer. Some actually find this work around to be faster and use it normally:

  • right click the SLURL link in your web browser and copy to clipboard
  • in the viewer, paste the link into your local chat and hit Enter.
  • open local chat history
  • click the link shown there; you will be shown the location info with the option to teleport direct to it.

The fist thing to check is the viewer settings: Preferences → Network & Files → Connections, in the Web Browser section, make sure Use My Browser… is selected.

If you get an error saying that no program is associated with the action, or that it doesn't know how to hand that action, make sure your computer settings show that there is a default web browser. An easy way to tell is to open your browser; if you are asked to make it the default, then you need to do so.

NOTE: The use of square brackets in the examples below indicates information is to be inserted. If they are not part of the windlight setting name, do not include them.

Windlight: Sky and Water

Firestorm supports both the new Region Windlight, introduced by LL, and Parcel Windlight, which was introduced with Phoenix Viewer. Both of these allow you to customize your in-world sky and water, but they operate at different levels: one is region-wide, while the other is restricted to single parcels.

Parcel Windlight allows individual parcel owners to customize their own land as they wish. Region Windlight is most effective on region-wide parcels, or where Region owners wish to provide a consistent experience to visitors.

Controlling Your Experience

There are several ways in which you can control you personal Windlight experience. You can opt to use whatever sky and water settings have been selected by region and/or parcel owners, or you can use your own. You can also create your own sky, water and day cycle settings.

General options concerning Windlight are set in PreferencesFirestorm→ Windlight tab; please refer there for details.

If you wish to use your own day/night cycle, or set to a specific time of day, then use top menu bar→ World → Environment Editor → Environment Settings.

Setting Sky and Water

If you own a region or parcel, you can customize the Windlight settings for yourself, and for others visiting your land.

Region Windlight

Region Windlight can only be changed by region owners or estate managers. It is set by going to the top menu bar and selecting World menu → Region Details. On the window that opens, select Environment. Regions can be set to use the default SL day cycle, a custom day cycle, or fixed time of day. See here for more on how to configure a region's Windlight settings.

Parcel Windlight

Overview

Parcel Windlight sharing is a feature of Firestorm that allows land owners to specify a Windlight preset for the viewer to use while on their land at the parcel level.

How It Works

The land owner just needs to put a plain text string at the end of the parcel description. Parcel description is set in the About Land floater, General tab.

/*Windlight Sky: "[name of the preset]"*/

NOTE: The Windlight name must be exactly as shown in the Windlight list, including all spaces, capitalization, and punctuation. One way to make sure you get the name exactly right is to go to World → Environment Editor → Sky (or Water) Presets → Edit Preset. Select the Windlight you want from the dropdown list, then copy the name.

Windlight water presets are also supported:

/*Windlight Sky: "[name of the preset]" Water: "[name of the WL water preset]"*/

Water settings can be used by its self just like sky if wanted.

Example: If the sky preset is to be [TOR] BIG SUN - Awwyeah and the water preset [TOR] Watermelon juice and the parcel's description is “My awesome place” then the parcel description would be like this:

My awesome place

/*Windlight Sky: "[TOR] BIG SUN - Awwyeah" Water: "[TOR] Watermelon juice"*/

Zones

Parcel WL settings also support zoned settings based on altitude. This allows skyboxes to have a different sky settings than ground level.

/*Windlight Sky @ [lower]m to [upper]m: "[name of preset]"*/

Example: If the parcel wide settings are to be [TOR] MIDDAY - Cheery cyan for the sky and [TOR] Ice-like for the water with a skybox between 500 meters and 600 meters using [TOR] NIGHT - Moony for its sky, the config line would like like so:

/*Windlight Sky: "[TOR] MIDDAY - Cheery cyan" Water: "[TOR] Ice-like" Sky @ 500m to 600m: "[TOR] NIGHT - Moony"*/

The parcel wide settings for sky and water are optional. Zones can be used by themselves leaving the rest of the land at region defaults.

NOTE: There is a 3 meter minimum distance between zones, zones should be at least 10 meters apart and over lap the desired area by a least 5 meters to allow for the 5 second delay on detecting changes.

How To Force Parcel WL To Always Override Region WL

If you have set region WL to use a fixed sky or a custom day cycle, region WL will always override parcel WL unless you use the RegionOveride flag

For example:

/*Windlight Sky: "[name of the preset]" Water: "[name of the WL water preset]"RegionOverride*/

Advanced

If there is not enough space in the description for the desired config line, there are several optional formatting and whitespace

/*Sky:"[preset]"Water:"[preset]"*/

Is the same as:

/*Windlight Sky:"[preset]" Water:"[preset]"*/

Zones can be shortened as well:

/*Sky@[lower]-[upper]:"[preset]"*/

Notes & Troubleshooting

Be sure to use “straight quotes,” both double and single, not “curly quotes.”

Region Details - Covenant Tab

Region Details - Covenant Tab

This tab is used to indicate the covenant, or rules, of the region. A covenant is a set of terms and conditions determined by an estate owner. It may outline such details as local theme, rental fees, architectural regulations, and rules of behavior in the region/estate. To purchase a parcel on an estate, a Resident must agree to the estate's covenant. Covenants are always viewable, but not editable, in About LandCovenant.

The top lines give general information about the estate:

  • Name: Name of the estate.
  • Owner: Name of the estate owner.
  • Covenant Last Modified: The date the covenant was last changed.

Below this is a large text box which displays the current covenant. This text will be displayed in all parcels on the region/estate, as noted above. To change the covenant, drag in a new notecard. If you wish to clear the current text, click the Reset button below.

Following this is information specific to the current region; this information too is displayed in all parcels' About Land:

  • Name: Name of the region.
  • Type: Regions may be Mainland or Estate, and Full, Homestead, or Openspace. Mainland regions may be owned in units of less than a full region, while Estate regions are only sold in full region units. (For more information, see this SL Wiki page.
  • Rating: The maturity rating of the region determines the kind of activity and content is allowed in the region. It is one of General, Moderate, or Adult, and is set by the estate owner, or Linden Lab for mainland regions.
  • Resale: Shows whether the parcel tenant may resell land to other residents.
  • Subdivide: Shows whether the parcel tenant can subdivide land into smaller parcels. (See Terraforming, which includes information on how to join and subdivide parcels.)

Region Details - Debug Tab

Region Details - Debug Tab

This tab is used to help diagnose and resolve problems the region might be experiencing, particularly region/server lag.

The top three check boxes disable vital functions of the region; do not use them lightly! They can serve not only to try to identify potential problems with objects on the region, but also as emergency measures to combat griefing.

  • Disable Scripts: Disable all scripts on the region.
  • Disable Collisions: Disables collisions from occurring.
  • Disable Physics: Disables the physics system. Note that while this is off, no avatar will be able to move.

Object return allows you to return all objects owned by a given person. This is sueful in griefing situations, but use with extreme care, select the name carefully as there is no way to undo this!

  • Resident: Opens the avatar selector to allow you to select whose objects to return.
  • Options:
    • With Scripts: Only returned objects if they are scripted; unscripted ones will be left.
    • On someone else's land: Will return only objects on parcels owned by someone other than you.
    • In every region in this estate: Useful if you own several regions, which have been littered with objects by the same person.
  • Return: Click once you have selected the person and options. You will be asked confirmation. Again, this cannot be undone; use with care!

The next two buttons display lists of objects, which can be used to find any that might be causing excessive region lag:

The last two buttons concern region restarts:

  • Restart Region: Schedule a region restart. You can indicate how much to wait before this will commence, the default being 120secs (2mins). A message will be sent to the region, warning people of the restart.
Restarts can help resolve some issues with a region.
  • Delay Restart: Delays the region restart by one hour. Use this as a temporary measure if there's an ongoing rolling restart but it's essential for you to get something done first, such as hosting an event.

Region Details - Estate Tab

Region Details - Estate Tab

This tab deals primarily with access control to the region/estate you own or manage. If the estate comprises several regions, changes made will optionally be applied to all regions.

The top lines are informative: the who the name of the estate and the estate owner.

The next section concerns broad access rights and options:

  • Allow only residents and groups listed below: If enabled, then only residents who are specifically allowed in other sections of this tab, will be allowed access. If this is unchecked, then any resident may access the region/estate - unless otherwise excluded (see below for ban lists). Blocking access this way overrides any parcel access controls that might be set.
  • Anyone can visit: This is enabled if the option above is disabled - and vice versa.
    • Must be 18+: If enabled, only residents who have verified that they are adults, on the SL website, will be allowed access. Note that this is a parcel-level setting, and is not the same as the Adult setting, which is estate-level. It is possible to have Adult access without being age verified.
    • Must have payment Info on File: If this is enabled, only residents who have payment information on file with LL will be allowed access to the parcel.
  • Parcel owners can be more restrictive: Enabling this permits parcel owners on the estate, to have more restrictive access settings. If this is off, then they will not be able to limit access more than what is specified in this panel.
  • Allow Voice Chat: If enabled, resident will be able to use local voice chat; otherwise this will not be available (thought private voice IM will be).
  • Allow Direct Teleport: Lets Residents teleport to specific locations within your estate's regions. If you want to force visitors to arrive at a specific area in the estate, disable this and use a telehub. If this is enabled, parcels can still set landing points.

The four lists below manage specific inclusions and exclusions to estate access. Below each are two buttons:

  • Add: Opens the Avatar Selector to allow you to select people to add to the list.
  • Remove: Removes the currently selected avatar(s) from the list.
  • Estate Managers: The estate/region owner may specify up to 10 people who can manage the estate on their behalf. Only the owner can add/remove people here. Estate rights gives a great deal of power, so be very careful before granting such rights to anyone.
  • Allowed Residents: Here you can specify individuals who will have access to the estate/region. (Note that allowed avatars may be banned at parcel level.)
  • Allowed groups: Clicking Add will open the Groups Selector, which you can use to add up to 63 groups. Members of these groups will be allowed access to the region/estate.
  • Banned Residents: If you wish to prevent people from accessing the region/estate, they may be added here.

Finally, two buttons:

  • Send Message to Estate: Allows a message to be broadcast to the entire estate.
  • Kick Resident from Estate: Opens the Avatar Selector to allow you to select someone to be expelled from the region/estate. Note: This doesn't automatically add the person to the list of banned users.

Region Details - Region Tab

Region Details - Region Tab

This tab gives access to options specific to the current region. (Estate-wide options are set in the Estate tab.)

The first lines give information about the region:

  • Name: Shows the name of the region.
  • Version: Shows the version of simulator software currently running the region.
  • Type: Regions may be Mainland or Estate, and Full, Homestead, or Openspace. (For an overview of what regions and estates are, and the types of region, please refer to this SL Wiki page.)
  • Estate ID: Indicates the region ID.
  • Grid Position: Coordinates of the region in the SL grid.

Following this are a number of options. On the left:

  • Block Terraform: If enabled, residents will be unable to terraform their parcels. This overrides anything that might be set in About LandOptions. The estate owner and managers can always terraform, regardless of this setting.
  • Block Fly: Disables flying for residents in the region. If someone enters from an adjacent region while flying, they will be able to fly until they land.
  • Block Parcel Fly Over: Enabling this prevents people from flying over parcels.
  • Allow Damage: Enables combat 2) on the region. Parcel owners may override this in About LandOptions by disabling the Safe Option.
  • Restrict Pushing: Disables Push scripts 3) in the region, to combat griefing.
  • Allow Land Resell: Allows parcel owners to resell their land to others. Estate owners and managers can always resell parcels, regardless of this setting.
  • Allow Land Join/Subdivide: When enabled, parcels owners may join/subdivide parcels they own; for group owned land, other group members might also be able to do so if their group role permits it.
  • Block Land Show in Search: If enabled, this prohibits parcel owners from flagging their parcels to show in search in About LandOptions.
  • Agent Limit: Sets the maximum number of people allowed in the region. When the limit is reached, incoming teleports fail with a message explaining why. Vary the number according to need; normally this will be around 30-50.
  • Object Bonus: Sets the Object Bonus 4) factor for the region.
  • Teleport Home One Resident: Opens the Avatar Picker so that you can select someone to teleport out of the region. Used to remove people who are being disruptive. To prevent their return, add the person to the list of banned residents in the Estate Tab.
  • Teleport Home All Residents: Sends all other people home.
  • Send Message to Region: Send a notification to everyone on the region. Use sparingly, to give important information.

To the right is a button:

  • Manage Telehub: Opens the Telehub window to control where people arrive when they teleport in. Telehubs are enabled in the Estate Tab, by disabling Direct Teleport.
2)
Second Life has a built-in health system, activated when Safe (no damage) is disabled. Scripted objects can be programmed to inflict damage on participants; when your health drops to 0%, you're teleported home. Unlike other virtual environments, death incurs no permanent penalties aside from a brief inconvenience. Non-consensual combat can be a violation of the Community Standards. Residents have also created their own combat systems when the built-in one was found lacking.
3)
Script in an object that can exert physical force on avatars and other objects. For example, a gun capable of slamming blocks into a wall. When used in a consensual gaming environment, this can be desired, but push scripts are also be used for griefing.
4)
A multiplier for the number of prims allowed on a parcel. May be between 1.0 (the default) and 10.0. For example, at 1.0 a 512m2 parcel is allowed 175 objects. Set at 2.0, a 512m2 parcel is allowed 350, or twice as many, and so on. The maximum number of prims per region is 30,000, regardless of the object bonus. NOTE: Lowering the object bonus after builds have been established in a region may cause objects to be returned or deleted.
